- The Cross of Valour was established in 1975 as the highest Australian Bravery Award. The awards were established as part of the institution of the Australian Honours System. The Cross of Valour has been awarded to five Australian civilians and, although there has been no Australian military recipient, they would be eligible in situations where normal honours to the military do not apply. The Cross of Valour is awarded "only for acts of the most conspicuous courage in circumstances of extreme peril". The award carries the post-nominal initials CV; awards may be made posthumously. (en)

- Het Dapperheidskruis van Australië werd in 1975 door Elizabeth II van het Verenigd Koninkrijk, Koningin van Australië gesticht ter vervanging van het Britse George Cross. Het is net als de voorganger een hoge onderscheiding voor moed. Het kruis wordt aan een rood lint met brede scharlaken bies gedragen. Het in 1972 ingestelde Canadese Dapperheidskruis, en het Canadese stonden model voor onderscheidingen in andere staten binnen het Gemenebest zoals:

- Krzyż Waleczności (ang. Cross of Valour, skr. CV) – najwyższe australijskie odznaczenie cywilne ustanowione 14 lutego 1975. Otrzymać je można jedynie za czyny wybitnej odwagi w okolicznościach najwyższego zagrożenia („only for acts of the most conspicuous courage in circumstances of extreme peril”), może być przyznane pośmiertnie. Odznaczenie do 2006 przyznano 5 razy. W australijskiej kolejności starszeństwa odznaczeń zajmuje miejsce bezpośrednio po brytyjskim Krzyżu Jerzego, a przed również brytyjskim Orderem Podwiązki. Osoby odznaczone tym medalem mają prawo umieszczać po swoim nazwisku litery „CV”. Jest pierwszym medalem w hierarchii australijskich odznaczeń cywilnych przyznawanych za odwagę: 1.
