- كان الركود الاقتصادي الذي حدث في أوائل العقد الأول من القرن الحادي والعشرين تراجعًا في النشاط الاقتصادي في الدول المتقدمة. أثر الركود على الاتحاد الأوروبي منذ عام 2000 وحتى عام 2001 والولايات المتحدة من شهر مارس إلى نوفمبر من عام 2001. تفادت المملكة المتحدة وكندا وأستراليا الركود، في حين أن روسيا، وهي دولة لم تشهد ازدهارًا في التسعينيات، بدأت بالتعافي فعليًا من هذا الوضع. استمر الركود في اليابان في التسعينيات. توقع الاقتصاديون هذا الركود، لأن الطفرة الاقتصادية التي حدثت التسعينيات (والمصحوبة بتضخم منخفض وبطالة منخفضة) تراجعت في بعض أجزاء شرق آسيا خلال الأزمة المالية الآسيوية (عام 1997). لم يكن الركود في الدول الصناعية بنفس أهمية الركود العالمي السابق. يعترض بعض الاقتصاديين في الولايات المتحدة على وصفه بأنه ركود، إذ لم يكن هناك ربعان متتاليان للنمو السلبي. - The early 2000s recession was a decline in economic activity which mainly occurred in developed countries. The recession affected the European Union during 2000 and 2001 and the United States from March to November 2001. The UK, Canada and Australia avoided the recession, while Russia, a nation that did not experience prosperity during the 1990s, in fact began to recover from said situation. Japan's 1990s recession continued. This recession was predicted by economists, because the boom of the 1990s (accompanied by both low inflation and low unemployment) slowed in some parts of East Asia during the 1997 Asian financial crisis. The recession in industrialized countries was not as significant as either of the two previous worldwide recessions. Some economists in the United States object to characterizing it as a recession since there were no two consecutive quarters of negative growth. (en)
- La récession du début des années 2000 est une contraction de l'activité économique qui a touché certains pays développés. Cette récession a affecté les pays-membres de l'Union Européenne en 2000-2001 et les États-Unis en 2002-2003. Plusieurs grands pays développés ont cependant évité cette récession, tel la Grande-Bretagne, le Canada, ou l'Australie. L'économie russe, très fragile tout au long des années 1990 et qui sortait à peine de la crise financière de 1998, a plutôt eu tendance à repartir au cours de cette période, tandis que la récession de l'économie japonaise continua. Cette récession fut moins sévère que les deux précédentes dans les pays industrialisés, à tel point que le mot de récession est discuté concernant l'économie américaine dans la mesure où celle-ci n'a pas connu deux trimestres consécutifs de contraction du PIB.
