- Roman Republican art is the artistic production that took place in Roman territory during the period of the Republic, conventionally from 509 BC to 27 BC. The military, political and economic development of the Roman Republic did not coincide with the development of an autonomous artistic civilization. In the Republican period at least three artistic moments can be distinguished: the first as a continuation of archaic culture, where production in the city did not manifest any stylistic characteristic of its own; a second linked to the conquest of Greece and the arrival of huge spoils of works of art; and a third phase starting during the reign of Sulla, when specifically Roman artworks began to appear. - L'arte romana repubblicana è la produzione artistica che si svolse nei territorio sotto il controllo di Roma durante il periodo della Repubblica (convenzionalmente dal 509 a.C. al 27 a.C.). Lo sviluppo militare, politico ed economico della Repubblica romana non coincise con lo sviluppo di una civiltà artistica autonoma. Nel periodo repubblicano si possono distinguere almeno tre momenti artistici: un primo come continuazione della cultura arcaica, dove la produzione in città non manifesta alcuna caratteristica stilistica propria; un secondo legato alla conquista della Grecia ed all'arrivo di ingenti bottini di opere d'arte, che mise in crisi la tradizionale produzione artistica romana innescando un tumultuoso dibattito; una terza fase a partire dall'età sillana,quando comparvero ineluttabilmente caratteri propri e specifici dell'arte romana.
