- El Reial i Militar Orde de Sant Hermenegild, o de Sant Ermengol, és una distinció militar espanyola (i un orde de cavalleria) creada pel rei Ferran VII en finir la Guerra del Francès el 1814. Fou creada per atorgar la màxima condecoració a aquells militars, els quals no obstant les dificultats i ignorant el rigor de la batalla servissin a l'exèrcit. Per tal d'enaltir aquesta condecoració i ennoblir-la davant d'altres més antigues decidiren incloure el títol de sant Hermenegild, qui fou rei de Sevilla i màrtir. - L'Ordre royal et militaire de Saint-Herménégilde (espagnol : Real y Militar Orden de San Hermenegildo) est une distinction militaire et un ordre honorifique espagnol destiné à récompenser les mérites militaires. Il fut créé par le roi Ferdinand VII d'Espagne à la fin de la guerre d'indépendance espagnole le 28 novembre 1814. Il fut créé afin de servir de récompense supérieure aux militaires espagnols pour les services exemplaires ainsi que pour les actes de bravoure au combat. Le souhait du roi fut de créer une distinction de haut rang comparable aux autres ordres espagnols plus anciens et il décida de le placé sous le patronage de saint Herménégilde, un roi wisigothique de Séville du VIe siècle, martyr de la défense de la foi catholique et saint patron des forces armées espagnoles. Le premier décret de promulgation de cet ordre fut publié en 1815 et fut modifié en 1879, 1951, 1994 et plus récemment en 2003. Son objectif est de récompenser et distinguer les officiers généraux, officiers et sous-officiers de l’armée de terre, de la marine, de l'armée de l'air, des forces spéciales et du la garde civile, pour leur constance et leur conduite irréprochable dans le service. - The Royal and Military Order of Saint Hermenegild (Spanish: Real y Militar Orden de San Hermenegildo) is both a general military honor and a legion created by Ferdinand VII of Spain on 28 November 1814. The Royal and Military Order of Saint Hermenegild is a military distinction of the Spanish Cavalry created by Ferdinand VII of Spain at the conclusion of the Spanish War of Independence in 1814. The purpose of the Order was to serve as a maximum means of reward for those soldiers who exceeded their military obligations and fought on, surpassing their suffering in battle, and who thus would serve as examples of bravery to His Spanish Majesty's armies. Given the desire of the King to create a distinction of extraordinary rank, comparable to others traditional honours, it was decided to put the Order under the Patronage of Saint Hermenegild, who was the Visigoth King of Seville who was martyred in defence of the Christian faith in the sixth century and who is the patron saint of the Spanish Armed Forces.
