Prof. Li is currently chair professor and head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of the University of Hong Kong (HKU). He also serves as Managing Director of . He is also on the boards of SUNeVision Ltd., Ltd., and Ltd. Prof. Li also chairs the Executive Committee, HKU Initiative on Clean Energy and Environment. From 2007 to 2012, he served as Associate Dean of Engineering at HKU. Before joining HKU in 1997, he was a professor of electrical engineering (EE) at the University of Southern California (USC) and director of of USC. He chaired the Computer Communications Technical Committee of the IEEE Communications Society from 1987 to 1989, and the Los Angeles Chapter of the IEEE Information Theory Group from 1983 to 1985.
