Everyone’s talking about #AI – but few focus on the #skills that are actually useful and applicable for urban practitioners today. At All Things Urban, together with Juan Pablo Corral, we are teaching urbanists how to apply it in #GIS and real #urban projects worldwide. ✅ Join the early access list: https://lnkd.in/dRiCm_hY
LLMs AND GIS FOR URBANISTS: BEYOND THE HYPE — A VIEW FROM THE FIELD 🧠🗺️ There’s a lot of noise about AI + GIS lately - but what’s actually useful for real, day-to-day spatial work? From a consultant’s perspective, the most tangible progress so far lies in GIS-aided workflows powered by LLMs. Think of using them to: 🧮 Write complex QGIS expressions 🔁 Automate repetitive tasks like normalizing datasets 📈 Understand results from geoprocessing (e.g. GWR outputs) ✍️ Generate layer descriptions or metadata faster That’s something we’ve also started to explore in our GIS & Spatial Analysis for Urban Practitioners course with All Things Urban - showing how AI can support real GIS work rather than replace it. But here’s the catch — these tools still require GIS knowledge. They don’t replace expertise; they amplify it. At the organizational level, we’re seeing assistants from: Esri → Arcade Assistant Felt → (my lovely former team 💛) with AI tools built around collaboration and mapping for teams CARTO → AI Assistant for enterprise data and spatial analytics And for individuals or smaller teams, there’s exciting work happening too: Atlas → currently in waitlist, but their Navi agent looks promising. Bunting Labs → with initiatives like Mundi and Kue - the latter being an AI assistant integrated directly into QGIS. Aino → building lightweight AI features to simplify spatial tasks for independent practitioners. At 2IT, we’re focused on the Latin American market, offering full-circle consultancy and a platform that integrates GIS, AI, and territorial intelligence. Our AI isn’t public yet - only our zoning assistant is live. I’ll be posting more soon about AI, QGIS, and upcoming courses around these topics - if you’d like to learn more, check the link in the comments 👇 #GIS #AI #LLMs #UrbanPlanning #SpatialAnalysis #QGIS #LocationIntelligence #Geospatial #LatinAmerica

Demographic change will inevitably call for urban design change – from #walkability and cooling to accessible public transport. The good news? Designing for older adults benefits everyone: children, caregivers, people with disabilities, and future generations. 🚶♂️ Safer crossings, better lighting, and more seating = healthier, more liveable cities for all. 🌿 Age-friendly design also means climate-friendly and people-friendly. 🏙 Cities like Tokyo show how systemic upgrades can transform daily life. 👉 Swipe through the carousel for insights and practical tips. 📚 Ready to go deeper?
