𝐏𝐮𝐬𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐚𝐤𝐚𝐫 Last week, we joined the first Regional Dialogue Platform on Anticipatory Action for West and Central Africa in Dakar, Senegal, under the theme “𝘌𝘢𝘳𝘭𝘺 𝘈𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯: 𝘵𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘢 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘤𝘩.” 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐥: 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. This means reallocating humanitarian and development funding towards early action and shifting more funding to act before crises happen, helping countries put clear plans in place for early action. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧. Our experts, particularly Yacine Fall and Jose Jodar Vidal played a central role in shaping these discussions, leading sessions on innovation in anticipatory action and strengthening climate services, both essential for better forecasting and preparedness. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 to advance anticipatory systems globally and regionally: 🌍 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 to enable timely, data-driven decisions. 🌍 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐬, with cash assistance as a central approach. 🌍 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 between governments and international actors. 🌍 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐦𝐬 to institutionalise anticipatory action. Challenges remain — from financing to coordination and forecasting — but the message from Dakar was clear: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧!
