Networking for Impact: DEG Impact at the MC 4 Fund's LPA in Madrid In October, Lars Zimmermann of DEG Impact was privileged to attend the Limited Partner Advisory Committee (LPAC) of the Mediterrania Capital Partners MC 4 Fund in Madrid. It was a great exchange and a valuable opportunity to network with like-minded individuals in the world of impact investing! It was particularly inspiring to meet so many other investors who are focused on the African continent. The clear focus is on combining attractive financial returns with measurable impact—an approach that perfectly aligns with DEG Impact's strategy. - The Exchange: The discussions at the LPAC once again highlighted how crucial close collaboration between LPs is for identifying best practices and maximizing the impact of our investments in Africa. - The Focus on Africa: The continent offers enormous growth opportunities, and the importance of Private Equity and Venture Capital in strengthening local economies and creating jobs is undeniable. - Return & Impact: We firmly believe that financial success and positive social and environmental outcomes can and must go hand-in-hand. Meetings like this in Madrid are essential to advance our shared goals: fostering sustainable development and generating attractive returns. Many thanks to the MC 4 Fund team, Albert Alsina & Mario Bonet for the excellent organization and the constructive platform! #DEGImpact #Africa #PrivateEquity #EmergingMarkets #MC4Fund #Madrid

The TLcom Africa Tech Female Founder Summit has always been more than an event — it’s been a catalyst for change. This year marks an important evolution as the Summit transforms into a multi-month programme, “Turning the Tide: Riding the next Growth Wave.” Building on seven years of connecting and inspiring Africa’s top female founders, the new format goes further — providing structured training, mentorship, and investor engagement beyond the Summit itself. This transformation reflects the growing need for long-term, sustained support for women entrepreneurs — enabling them to scale and become investment-ready. At AfricaGrow, we’re proud to co-fund this next chapter alongside partners such as FMO, helping TLcom deepen its impact and continue shaping a more inclusive venture ecosystem across Africa. #AfricaGrow #KfW #DEGImpact #AllianzGI #WomenInTech #VCinAfrica #GenderLensInvesting #TLcomFemaleFounder25 #AfricaTech #EmergingMarkets
We are officially live! Our annual 7th Africa Tech Female Founder Summit is here. Our Senior Partner Omobola Johnson remarks in her opening address: The past few years have been tough — funding slowed, and capital dried up. But we’re now seeing the tide turn, with investors once again looking to Africa. According to the Big Deal, in 2024, only 2% of total funding ($48m of a total $2.2b) went to startups founded by women. For solo or all-female founding teams, that figure dropped to less than 1%. This low level of funding is not a reflection of talent, but rather the result of systemic biases and the ongoing challenges underrepresented founders face. To ride this wave in the turning tide, we must be intentional — about who is in the room and how we build deeper, more meaningful connections. Since 2019, our TLcom Female Founder Summit has been about walking that journey together — with peers who understand it — and being deliberate about changing the narrative. Looking forward to connecting with our attendees today. #TLcomFemaleFounder25 #AfricaTech #WomenInTech

The 4th cohort of the Africa Venture Finance Programme wrapped up a dynamic and impactful week in Oxford, bringing together more than 40 GPs from across Africa! This initiative, supported by the AfricaGrow Technical Assistance Facility funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Boost Africa Technical Assistance Facility by the European Investment Bank (European Investment Bank (EIB)). Curious about the highlights? 📈 The programme included an insightful session on the fallacies of traditional fund performance reporting with Oxford professor Ludovic Phalippou, alongside deep dives into venture valuations, portfolio construction, exits, and AI in VC business models 🤝 More than 100 networking meetings between GPs and LPs, with participation from leading DFIs and institutional investors including European Investment Bank (EIB), DEG Deutsche Investitions und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH, KfW, Allianz Global Investors, British International Investment, Bpifrance, EBRD, Proparco, Arab Fund, ANAVA and MSMEDA. 🗯 Peer discussions with senior partners from TLcom Capital LLP, Partech, and AfricInvest Group on VC "Hard Truths and Smart Fixes". 🏆 The award ceremony with the winners Vested World for the “Most Promising Fund Manager” and Tidjane Deme (Partech) for his “Lifetime Achievement”. Strengthening Africa’s Venture Capital Landscape: Oxford University Hosted Leading VC Fund Managers – we participated Last week, Sofia Grivet Brancot Lars Zimmermann Jacques Graßmann had the honour of co-hosting the fourth edition of the Africa Venture Finance Program (AVFP) — a leading executive initiative dedicated to strengthening Africa’s venture capital ecosystem. The in-person executive program brought more than 40 of Africa’s leading venture capital fund managers together — nearly half of them women — for a week of peer learning, skills development, and strategic dialogue. Designed specifically for funds investing in early- and growth-stage tech and tech-enabled companies across Africa, it serves as a key platform to enhance the capabilities of Africa-focused VC managers and foster a more inclusive, connected, and resilient investment ecosystem across the continent. The African VC program is co-sponsored by AfricaGrow and EIB Global and hosted by Oxford University. We truly valued the inspiring discussions with peers and partners and look forward to continuing the journey together. #DEGImpact #EmergingMarkets #AlternativeInvestments #VentureCapital #AfricaGrow #Impact
