EP PerMed - the European Partnership for Personalised Medicine

It’s not just about science — it’s about people. I had the pleasure of facilitating the Icebreakers sessions — creating space for connection beyond titles and institutions at the 1st Implementation School for Data-driven Research and Implementation of Personalised Medicine of the EP PerMed - the European Partnership for Personalised Medicine, held in Zaragoza, Spain. From young researchers to senior professors, everyone had the opportunity to be seen and heard - not only through their scientific work, but also through their personality, curiosity, and stories. The discussions that followed each session were deep, open, and constructive and some of the best ones even continued over lunches and dinners (with truly amazing catering by #Guian_Catering). One of the highlights of the week was a lively debate on finding a cure for a rare disease - between a group representing researchers and physicians, and another representing patients, caregivers, and families. It was an eye-opening exercise in empathy, ethics, and collaboration, reminding us what personalised health is truly about. This event brought together different stakeholders - all driven by one shared goal: to make personalised medicine a reality for everyone. Just wrapping up the 1. Implementation School for Data-driven Research and Implementation of Personalised Medicine in Zaragoza, Spain of the EP PerMed - the European Partnership for Personalised Medicine. It was an inspiring event bringing together practitioners, researchers, entrepreneurs, regulatory bodies, policy advisers and patients -all persuing the implementation of personalised medicine approaches in healthcare systems. All attendees and online participants provided valuable insights and discussed the very diverse and complex fild of personalised medicine implementation. Ethical, legal, economic, regulatory, epidemiological and clinical implications were discussed and best practices were shared. I am grateful for having the opportunity to foster exchange and connect dedicated individuals and institutions with the common goal to make personalised medicine a reality for everyone! High five and thanks to Maria Jose Ruiz Alvarez (MoH Italy), Shlomit Kenigsberg- PhD,MBA (MoH Israel) and Marimar Encabo Berzosa (IACS) for putting such a sophistcated program together and making this event a great success! Han sido 4 intensas jornadas en las que cerca de medio centenar de investigadores e investigadoras, profesionales sanitarios, analistas de la salud, decisores y representantes de asociaciones de pacientes de toda Europa, se han congregado en el CIBA para el intercambio de conocimientos y la coordinación de esfuerzos internacionales para llevar la Medicina Personalizada del laboratorio a la cama del paciente. La visión de EP PerMed es mejorar los resultados de salud en el marco de sistemas sanitarios sostenibles mediante la investigación, el desarrollo, la innovación y la implementación de enfoques de medicina personalizada que beneficien a los pacientes, la ciudadanía y la sociedad en general. El IACS coordina un paquete de trabajo para la implementación de la Medicina Personalizada en los sistemas de Salud (WP4). So proud to have been part of the Organizing Committee of the 1st EP PerMed - the European Partnership for Personalised Medicine School – “Data-Driven Research and Implementation.” Representing the Chief Scientific Office at the Ministry of Health in Israel and the Israeli ecosystem, it was inspiring to see how ideas, people, and practices come together to shape the future of Personalized Health and Precision Medicine Dr. Lidya Blecher delivered two insightful talks on Real-World Evidence and Clinical Data: Strengthening Personalised Approaches and The Role of Electronic Health Records in Personalised Medicine Integration. Dr. Andrea Szuchman-Sapir from MIGAL Galilee Research Institute and Tel-Hai College presented on the implementation of cellular dysfunction in pulmonary vascular disease research. and Dr. Nathalie Bloch MD MPA shared her experience in founding @ARC innovation-centre at Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer , building collaborative ecosystems, advancing Interoperability and Data Standards: and breaking Silos in Personalised Medicine. Her story about creating medical structures for rural communities after October 7th was particularly moving and well accepted. As one of the organizers, I had the pleasure of moderating several sessions alongside Maria Jose Ruiz Alvarez, and our colleagues at Instituto Aragonés de Ciencias de la Salud (IACS), and leading the social interventions with questions such as: 💡 “The project that surprised me the most…” 💬 “If I could solve one challenge in health research, it would be…” 🌱 “The best advice I ever received…” These sparked wonderful exchanges and authentic connections among participants.
