Our goal is to further establish mathematics as a key technology, give innovative impetus and implement it in practice together with industry partners. Not only large companies, but also more and more small and medium-sized enterprises use simulations in the most diverse areas and thus profit in terms of innovation and quality assurance of products and processes. The spectrum of the institute’s customers extends across all industries – from automotive and mechanical engineering to the textile industry, microelectronics, computer industry and finance. The basic modules of our projects are consulting, support in the application of high-performance computer technology and the deployment of tailor-made software solutions. Computer simulations are an indispensable tool in the design and optimization of products and production processes, services, communication processes and work processes. Real models are replaced by virtual models. Mathematics plays a fundamental role in the creation of this virtual world. The transverse character of mathematics makes it a “generic technology”; as a basis for bridging into the simulation world, however, it also becomes the key technology for computer simulations which have found their way into nearly all areas of economic life. Increasingly more companies utilize simulation for cost reduction. It is specifically these companies that we support with consultation and computing power. They profit in the market through the use of simulation as identification for innovation and quality assurance of their products. Along with the implementation of this technology in application projects and its further development in research projects, the close collaboration with the Department of Mathematics at the University of Kaiserslautern is also a point of emphasis of the Fraunhofer ITWM. The classical disciplines of applied mathematics such as numerics, optimization, stochastics and statistics as well as differential equations are cornerstones.

🤝 Fachlicher Austausch zwischen #IPEK und Fraunhofer ITWM Der erste Kontakt entstand auf der #VDI-Tagung „Humanschwingungen“, wo spannende Diskussionen den Grundstein für einen vertieften fachlichen Austausch legten. Dieser Austausch wurde nun durch einen Besuch am Fraunhofer-Institut für Techno- und Wirtschaftsmathematik (ITWM) in Kaiserslautern weiter intensiviert. Vor Ort bot sich die Gelegenheit, die Prüfstände des ITWM kennenzulernen, zu testen und deren Mess- und Auswertungsmethoden im Detail zu verstehen – ein wichtiger Schritt hin zu möglichen gemeinsamen Forschungsaktivitäten. Ein herzliches Dankeschön an das Team des ITWM für den offenen Dialog und den spannenden Einblick in eure Arbeiten! 🔬 Innovative Simulation Techniques for Glass Fiber Production by Walter Arne, Andre Schmeißer, and Johannes Schnebele (Fraunhofer ITWM, Kaiserslautern/Germany) Using Ansys Fluent in combination with the in-house simulation tool Vispi, Fraunhofer ITWM models the complex interaction between molten glass and airflow during fiber formation. The simulations deliver valuable insights into temperature behavior, fiber dynamics, and nozzle flow, supporting precise process optimization. In collaboration with Knauf Insulation Deutschland GmbH and Woltz GmbH, the research enables improvements in energy efficiency, waste reduction, and fiber quality consistency. 🙏 Am 24.10. durfte ich in Darmstadt an einem hochkarätigen internationalen Netzwerktreffen in der IHK Darmstadt Rhein Main Neckar mitwirken, das Akteure aus der #Gesundheitswirtschaft mit dem #Kulturtourismus aus der Wissenschaftsstadt Darmstadt/Rhein-Main und der chin. Metropole Leshan zusammenbrachte. 💥 💫 Eine ungewöhnliche Kombination? Eine ungewöhnlich gute kann ich euch sagen 💪 ! 🫨 Die Veranstaltung wurde organisiert von InnoNet HealthEconomy e. V. und International Culture Cooperations (ICC) in Zusammenarbeit mit Skål International Germany. Die Kombination der Themen war so einzigartig, dass es dazu mehrere Posts geben wird (Spoiler). Insbesondere die Präsentationen sind es wert, näher unter die Lupe genommen zu werden 😎. (1) Städtepräsentationen: Leshans Vizebürgermeister Xu Tianyi stellte die Wirtschafts- und Kulturstadt Leshan vor, gefolgt von Zeng Wei (Direktor der Gesundheitskommission), der sich mit TCM und Kräutermedizin beschäftigte. Wusstet ihr, dass der größte sitzende Buddha in Leshan zu finden ist? (2) Medizin & Gesundheit: Experten aus den Reihen von InnoNet lieferten spannende Einblicke: Daniel Schilling (IKK Südwest, Vorstand) sprach über Disease-Management-Programme (DMP), Alexander Scherrer (Fraunhofer ITWM) berichtete zu Data Science und KI im Gesundheitswesen. Prof. Dr. Bernd Sagemann (FOM Hochschule für Oekonomie & Management) lieferte Fakten zur Medizinethik & Compliance. Diana Klich (Qurasoft) stellte innovative digitale Medizinlösungen vor. Ein herzlicher Dank an Birgit Härtle, Präsidentin von InnoNet Health Economy e. V., für die thematische Orga dieses Blocks! (3) Tourismus & Kultur wurde federführend durch Skål International Germany mit Präsident Johannes Jungwirth vertreten. Spannende Einblicke zu Darmstadt und zur Arbeit der IHK lieferten Axel Scheer (IHK Darmstadt) und Agnes Allig (Darmstadt Marketing GmbH). Oberbürgermeister Hanno Benz hieß die intern. Delegation willkommen. Ein besonderes Dankeschön an dieser Stelle an Claudia Ehry von Skål International Frankfurt, die die Organisation vor Ort mehr als tatkräftig anschob und diesen Teil des Tages im Speziellen organisierte. Ohne sie wäre das alles nicht möglich gewesen! ❤️ Vormittags hatte die chin. Delegation das UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt besichtigt, während Leshan im Gegenzug großformatige Fotografien des in Leshan befindlichen "größten sitzenden Buddha der Welt" (UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe) nach Darmstadt brachte. 🫶 Das Treffen endete mit der Einladung des Leshan-Vizebürgermeisters zum Austausch vor Ort, z. B. auf der intern. Touristikmesse 2026. Was ich da gemacht habe? VIELE Ideen für Beiträge zu Medizin & Gesundheit gesammelt 💪.
