💡 FAQ #5 about the new #Hybrid-#DRGs: Will #reimbursement now decrease? As part of our Hybrid-DRG FAQ series, we’re addressing one of the most pressing questions for manufacturers and providers in the German healthcare market. The calculation of the German DRG reimbursement is based on the valuation ratio (relative weight) multiplied by the current federal base rate. This means that DRG reimbursement is directly linked to actual treatment costs. Under the new Hybrid-DRGs, reimbursement is also cost-based, including outpatient treatment cases on a pro ratio basis. So, what does this mean in practice? ➡️ Costs are transferred from inpatient reimbursement to the Hybrid-DRGs, which reduces total reimbursement for inpatient treatment cases. ➡️ At the same time, reimbursement for the treatment cases that are now billed through Hybrid-DRGs is also reduced. As a result, both the previous and the new reimbursement levels are lower. What impact could this have on your product and strategy? Learn how these changes may affect your #MarketAccess and #Reimbursement approach and how to proactively adapt. 📩 Contact us for tailored insights: [email protected] 🔎 Stay tuned for more updates in our Hybrid-DRG FAQ series - we’ll continue answering the key questions you need to know. #HybridDRG #MarketAccess #Reimbursement #Innovation #MedTech #GermanHealthcareSystem #HealthEconomics #HealthcareStrategy

DRG System 2026: Insights from the 25th #DGfM #Autumn #Symposium On October 13, 2025, the 25th Autumn Symposium of the German Society for Medical Controlling (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Medizincontrolling e.V. (DGfM) took place in Frankfurt. Our CEO, Sven Sauermann, was on-site and shares the latest updates on the DRG system for 2026. As is tradition, the first day of the event was devoted entirely to the DRG system. Leading experts in the field of hospital financing discussed current issues relating to the Hospital Care Improvement Act (KHVVG) and the Hospital Adjustment Act (KHAG). As usual, Dr. Frank Heimig, head of InEK, concluded the event with an outlook on the upcoming changes for 2026. This was his first public presentation of insights into the future direction of the DRG system in 2026. A central topic was the restructuring of the DRG system in the course of defining #Hybrid-#DRGs. Although the underlying cost data has already been determined by InEK and forwarded to InBA in recent days, an agreement by the self-governing body is still pending. This could lead to further adjustments to the DRG system 2026, including possible changes to DRG definitions and the DRG catalog. What does this mean for your product and your market strategy? The upcoming changes may have a direct impact on your positioning in the German healthcare market. 💡 FAQ #4 about the new #German #Hybrid-#DRGs: Why were Hybrid-DRGs introduced in the first place? As part of our Hybrid-DRG FAQ series, we explore why Germany is implementing cross-sector reimbursement for certain medical treatments. Compared to other countries, more patients in Germany are treated as in-patients, which leads to higher costs without improving quality. The new Hybrid-DRGs apply equally to registered contract doctors and hospitals, creating incentives for more patients to shift from inpatient to outpatient care. 📢 German Hospital Reform Update: Cabinet Approves #KHAG Adjustment Act 📄 On October 8, 2025, the German Federal Cabinet approved the draft #Hospital #Reform Adjustment Act (KHAG), aiming to make the original reform more practical. The adjustments provide more flexibility for states and hospitals, but key questions about long-term financing, feasibility, and bureaucracy remain open. Key highlights of the KHAG adjustment: 👉🏻Regional adaptability: Federal states can decide on exemptions and cooperation models between healthcare providers, supporting care in rural areas. 👉🏻Service groups: Hospital services will be grouped into 61 categories for streamlined implementation of new quality criteria. 👉🏻Onco-surgery: Reduced case number thresholds to secure comprehensive and specialized care. 👉🏻Transformation fund: Up to €25 billion over ten years, plus an additional €1 billion annually for four years, to support hospitals and relieve state budgets. University hospitals may also receive subsidies. 👉🏻Pre-Reimbursement: Introduction and supplements postponed by one year; existing pediatric and obstetrics supplements extended. 💡 The key question: How will these changes shape the future healthcare landscape, planning authority, and financing system in Germany? At Healthcare Heads, we specialize in market access and reimbursement in the German healthcare market. We analyze the impact of KHAG on structural planning, reimbursement systems, and investment decisions, helping you navigate potential opportunities and challenges for your product. 💡 FAQ #3 about the new #German #Hybrid-#DRGs: What does “#cross-#sector” reimbursement mean? As part of our Hybrid-DRG FAQ series, we take a closer look at how reimbursement is evolving across care settings. Until now, inpatient services in hospitals were often reimbursed at higher rates than services provided by contract physicians under the EBM (German medical fee schedule). With cross-sector, uniform reimbursement through Hybrid-DRGs, contract physicians can now perform and bill certain services at the same rate as inpatient care. 🚀 Understanding these changes is crucial for product strategy, market access, and reimbursement planning.
