Electric, digital, and sustainable – these impulses were presented by BMW Group at IAA MOBILITY 2025. The world premiere of the BMW iX3, the first production model of BMW’s Neue Klasse, offered visitors a firsthand look at a new era of electric driving, featuring advanced 800-volt technology and smart charging options. Alongside, the BMW iX5 Hydrogen was showcased to demonstrate the potential of hydrogen as a clean and powerful alternative for tomorrow’s roads. At the Open Space, visitors explored innovative features such as the BMW Panoramic iDrive and bidirectional charging, while also discovering a wide range of current models and show cars from MINI and BMW Motorrad. But the experience went beyond technology. Live music, dynamic dance performances, and other entertainment highlights turned the BMW stand into an immersive space – perfectly blending innovation with a vibrant atmosphere.

Ever wondered why your coffee cup sits snugly in one car but wobbles dangerously in another? Today is World Standards Day, the moment to appreciate the unseen rules that keep our world running smoothly. But not everything is standardized, as our shaky morning coffees remind us. That’s because there’s no official standard defining the exact size or depth of automotive cupholders. In vehicle manufacturing, strict quality standards do exist – like ISO 9001, ensuring consistent global quality management, and IATF 16949, built specifically for the automotive industry to secure precise, safe production processes. These frameworks protect quality and reliability, but they stop short of dictating universal dimensions or shapes for the humble cupholder. The result? Depending on your car, cupholders can be bigger or smaller, deeper or shallower – each one shaped by design decisions and market trends. So tell us: what else in your car deserves to be standardized?

What if your car could power your home during a blackout or help stabilize the power grid? At IAA MOBILITY 2025, we saw the future of connected mobility and smart city. Our exhibitors are already building it. A prime example comes from Mercedes-Benz AG, who is pushing the boundaries with its "ELF" test platform. ELF is short in German for “Experimental-Lade-Fahrzeug” – which translates to “Experimental Charging Vehicle”. This true rolling lab is testing both advanced CCS with charging speeds up to 900 KW and the powerful Megawatt Charging System (MCS). The idea behind it is simple but powerful: move from a "car as a consumer" to a "car as an energy asset." By creating a decentralized network of mobile batteries, this technology can help stabilize local grids, support peak-shaving, and make our energy infrastructure more resilient. It’s the tangible application of the theories discussed on our stages. Mercedes-Benz's work perfectly showcases how the innovations we see at IAA MOBILITY are moving from concept to product. This is exactly the conversation we're advancing: mobility tech that plugs directly into Smart Grid strategies to accelerate reliable e-mobility at scale—benefiting households, fleets, and city infrastructure alike. We're incredibly inspired by the progress and can't wait to see what comes next. Mark your calendars: the journey continues at the next IAA MOBILITY from September 7-12, 2027. See you there!
