This a much needed solution-oriented report exploring how we can jointly tackle the intertwined challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, water, health, and food security. I proudly served as a Lead Author in the climate chapter, where we assessed how climate mitigation and adaptation measures affect other environmental dimensions and human well-being. Our findings are encouraging: many climate solutions also help address other environmental crises when designed thoughtfully. 🌱 For example, restoring ecosystems, shifting diets, renewable energy, and more sustainable land management can deliver co-benefits across sectors (reducing emissions, enhancing biodiversity, and improving livelihoods). It has become clear to me what nexus thinking is all about: breaking silos, connecting policies, and finding pathways where people, planet, and prosperity can thrive together. 📢 Happening now: The 63rd session of the IPCC (IPCC-63) is currently taking place in Lima, Peru, where many items including the workplan of the seventh assessment report are being addressed. IPBES Executive Secretary Luthando Dziba took the floor to highlight the various ongoing IPBES assessments and to express eager anticipation of further engagement with IPCC to highlight the linkages between biodiversity and climate change in both the IPCC’s AR-7 report and the IPBES second global assessment of biodiversity and ecosystem services.
