Peering into the past: a prototype that revolutionized minimally invasive surgery. More than half a century ago, Professor Harold Hopkins built a cystoscope prototype that, through his groundbreaking collaboration with Dr. med. h. c. Karl Storz, sparked a new era of endoscopic surgery. A pivotal piece of KARL STORZ history—and a name still instantly recognizable today: HOPKINS, engraved on every rigid scope. This very prototype is preserved at the Hunterian Museum of The Royal College of Surgeons of England, where Curator Alice Watkinson-Dean guided us through the story of an optical breakthrough that forever changed surgical practice. What began as a bold idea continues to shape patient care worldwide today. From reusable products and packaging to regional sourcing and climate-conscious events, we’re committed to reducing our footprint and giving back to the planet. 🌱 One recent example: 40 colleagues from #TeamKARLSTORZ came together near Blumberg, Germany to plant 400 trees in collaboration with myreforest and the KARL STORZ Foundation, offsetting emissions from our 80th anniversary celebration at our headquarters in Tuttlingen in May. 🌸 In October, #TeamKARLSTORZ goes pink together across the globe because awareness and early detection in the fight against breast cancer can truly save lives. We are committed to supporting this mission—not only through innovative technologies like the Rubina™ Lens, which assists surgeons in breast cancer treatment worldwide, but also through the dedication of our colleagues, who bring awareness into their daily lives. 💪 This #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth, our teams around the globe took meaningful action. In North America, lots of colleagues joined a commemorative walk organized by our local Women’s Employee Resource Group, complete with themed snacks, pink ribbon pins, and a best-dressed photo contest, with many walking in honor of loved ones. Across Europe, our colleagues in Croatia, Greece, Romania, and Slovenia held awareness days at their offices—filled with education, conversation, and pink touches everywhere. And in New Zealand, our team gathered for a heartfelt “Potluck” Pink Ribbon Lunch enjoying homemade dishes while also sharing support and knowledge. These initiatives show that the fight against breast cancer doesn’t only happen in hospitals or research labs—it begins in our communities.
