#LongStoryShort: Private equity finds opportunity in Japan’s family business succession crunch. Japanese business owners are turning to private equity to sell their business, in response to the country’s aging population, a lack of willing heirs and the world’s highest inheritance taxes. As a result, deal value in the Japanese private equity space has now surpassed $20 billion for the last four years in a row, most recently leaping 30% on a year-on-year basis. The movement isn’t slowing down either. More than 65% of buyout activity is now associated with succession cases and one third of all Japanese companies are set to have no successor by 2025, according to Neuberger Berman and the World Economic Forum. Regulatory and macro forces are also fuelling the expansion, CNBC report. Government reforms from 2015 require listed companies to appoint independent directors and improve their returns on equity. Weaker yen, which has fallen 4% against the dollar this year, and comparatively low interest rates are therefore attracting the attention of PE investors. Can PE continue to play a pivotal role in succession challenges in the coming years? #PrivateEquity #PrivateMarkets #Alternatives #Investing #Japan Source: https://lnkd.in/gK_dMnZs

Europe holds €11.5 trillion in savings accounts – yet lacks a unified capital market. In Startup Insider's recent podcast, Moonfare Founder & Co-CEO Dr Steffen Pauls discusses what’s needed to change that: stronger collaboration, smarter regulation and a shared vision for Europe’s financial future. 🎧 Tune in (in german): https://lnkd.in/eR5jagDr #PrivateMarkets #CapitalMarkets #Europe #Leadership #Moonfare
#LongStoryShort: Goldman bets big on venture secondaries with Industry Ventures deal. Goldman Sachs has announced plans to acquire Industry Ventures, a San Francisco-based venture capital firm managing $7 billion in assets, in a deal worth up to $965 million. The acquisition aims to strengthen Goldman’s $540 billion alternatives platform and marks a rare Wall Street acquisition of a VC firm, reports CNBC. Industry Ventures, best known as a pioneer in secondaries and hybrid funds, may give Goldman a powerful entry point into private markets and the secondary trading space. With the secondaries market expected to surpass $200 billion in trading volume by the end of 2025, Goldman’s bet signals how central the asset class has become to the future of private markets.
