Second #SynTrac Scientific Talk by Prof. Maršík
We`re excited to announce that Prof. Ing. Frantisek Marsik the Czech Academy of Sciences will deliver another insightful #SynTrac lecture on "Inertia and gravity“.
📅 Date: 24 September 2025
🕑 Time: 2.30 pm
📍 Location: Lecture Room V 6.02 at ILA, Pfaffenwaldring 6, University of Stuttgart
Prof. Ing. František Maršík, DrSc., is an emeritus researcher at the Institute of Thermomechanics of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
He studied at the Faculty of Nuclear and Technical Physics of the Czech Technical University in Prague, where he earned his engineering degree. He received his CSc. in 1974 for work on applying non-equilibrium thermodynamics to compressible fluid flow, his DrSc. in 1991 for research on dissipative processes affecting stability in solids and fluids, and habilitation in 1994 with studies on heterogeneous flow with relaxation processes.
Prof. Maršík joined the Institute of Thermomechanics in 1967 and from 1990 to 2003 led its Department of Thermodynamics. Since 1999 he has served as Professor of Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics at both Czech Technical University and Charles University in Prague. In addition, since 2011 he has headed the Department of Polymer Technologies at the New Technologies Research Centre of the University of West Bohemia. In 2019 he was named Researcher Emeritus of the Institute of Thermomechanics.
His research spans non-equilibrium thermodynamics, kinetic phase transitions, thermo-hydrodynamic stability of fluids and solids, as well as the thermodynamic analysis of electrochemical processes in hydrogen fuel cells and applications in biothermodynamics such as muscle work generation, bone remodeling, and cardiovascular hemodynamics. He has long collaborated internationally, including frequent research visits to University of Stuttgart, and shorter stays at institutes in Göttingen, Brussels, and Minsk.
Prof. Maršík has authored and co-authored more than 135 publications, edited lecture notes on metastable fluid behavior and biomechanical modeling, and supervised numerous doctoral students. His scientific contributions have been recognized with several honors, including the František Křižík Honorary Medal (2014), the Honorary Medal of the Czech Medical Society J. E. Purkyně (2017), and the Prof. Z. P. Bažant Award for Engineering Mechanics (2022).
Looking forward to seeing you at the lecture!
