With great pleasure, we welcome Prof. Dr. Magdalena Chechlińska, ISOBM Board Member and Head of the Laboratory of Cancer Biology at the Maria Sklodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology, as an ISOBM 2025 speaker. Prof. Chechlińska's research encompasses the tumour microenvironment, cytokines, microRNAs and biomarkers, and her significant contributions have been recognised with the Jędrzej Śniadecki Memorial Award from the Polish Academy of Sciences. She has launched important initiatives such as ONKOSYS, an IT platform for cancer research, and is currently leading a work package in a large-scale EU project (@WCT EVI MAP) that feeds into the WHO Classification of Tumours (WCT). In addition to her research activities, she is Editor in Chief of Tumor Biology and a member of the Editorial Boards of BMC Cancer and Contemporary Oncology. She is also Chair of the Scientific Board of the Children's Memorial Health Institute in Warsaw, Poland. 🎤 At ISOBM 2025, she will co-chair the session on ‘Therapy Response Monitoring’ and give a presentation on ‘A New Hierarchy of Evidence for Tumours in Pathology (HETP)’ in the ‘Evidence-based Medicine (WHO IARC IC3R)’ session. We welcome Dr. Aviad Zick, senior medical oncologist at Hadassah Medical Center and senior lecturer at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, as a speaker at the ISOBM 2025 Conference. Dr. Zick is working on translating DNA characterisation into oncological care. Together with a unique team of biologists and clinicians at the Hebrew University – Hadassah Medical Center, he applies epigenetic cell traits to comprehensively monitor disease states, from cancer screening and identification of tumour origin to assessment of disease extent, identification of treatment targets and monitoring of therapy response. Their work includes the development of a sarcoma classifier based on DNA methylation and the characterisation of the cellular composition of cfDNA using low-coverage whole-genome nanopore sequencing. 🎙️At ISOBM 2025, he will speak on the topic of ‘Clinical application of plasma ctDNA in early cancer detection’ in the ‘Liquid Profiling by Nucleic Acid Markers’ session. Speaker spotlight: We are thrilled to welcome Prof. Dr. Efrat Shema, Associate Professor at the Weizmann Institute of Science, as a speaker at the ISOBM 2025 conference. Prof. Shema is a pioneer in single-molecule and single-cell technologies for studying the epigenome. Her lab's work focuses on uncovering the mechanisms of epigenetic dysregulation in cancer, identifying therapeutic vulnerabilities, and developing next-generation liquid biopsy technologies for non-invasive early-stage cancer diagnostics. She has also received several prestigious grants and awards, including the European Research Council (ERC) Grant and the European Research Council Proof-of-Concept (ERC-PoC) Grant, the latter for the development and commercialisation of a novel liquid biopsy diagnostic technology. 🎤 At ISOBM 2025, she will give a presentation on ‘Single-molecule, multi-modal analysis of the epigenetics of plasma isolated nucleosomes’ in the ‘Epigenetic Biomarkers’ session. It is a pleasure to introduce Prof. Dr. Qing Meng, Professor and Section Chief of Clinical Chemistry at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, as part of the ISOBM 2025 program in Murnau! Prof. Meng is internationally renowned for his contributions to tumour biology, biomarkers, liquid biopsy and cancer diagnostics, with over 160 peer-reviewed publications. His achievements have been recognised with numerous awards, including the 2021 AACC Academy Award for Outstanding Contributions to Clinical Chemistry in a Selected Area of Research. Beyond his research, he serves the global laboratory medicine community in various leadership roles: as Immediate Past-President of the Academy of Diagnostics and Laboratory Medicine (formerly AACC Academy), as Co-Chair of the IFCC eJIFCC Working Group, as Co-Editor-in-Chief of eJIFCC, as an ISOBM Board Member, and as a member of the CLSI Expert Panel on Clinical Chemistry and Toxicology. We are excited to welcome Prof. Dr. Michael Quante, Professor of Gastrointestinal Oncology at the University of Freiburg and Co-Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg (CCCF), as a speaker at ISOBM 2025! As a translational gastro-oncologist, Prof. Quante investigates how inflammation and stem cell programs drive the progression from Barrett's esophagus to esophageal adenocarcinoma.
