Excellence Strategy – Halfway through our tour!   Fifth stop: Tübingen calling! From Bavaria to The Länd – our journey led us to the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, where history, innovation, and a beautiful Neckar view come together.   Many thanks to the Tübingen team for the warm welcome, thoughtful organization, and engaging discussions. And as always, to our international reviewers and the Committee of Experts for their continued dedication and good spirits along the way. 🙌   With five visits completed, we’ve officially reached the halfway mark of our evaluation tour – still full of curiosity and energy (and maybe already experts in German train timetables 😉). Excellence Strategy – Fourth on-site visit: Hello again, Munich!   After the visit to LMU, I’m taking over from my dear colleague Inka Spang-Grau: Bavarian capital, round 2 – this time at the Technische Universität München - Technical University of Munich (TUM). A big thank you to the TUM team for the flawless organization, warm hospitality, and smooth execution – the visit truly ran like clockwork, framed by a stunning Indian Summer in Munich 🍁🍂. As always, we are deeply grateful to our international reviewers and the four members of our Committee of Experts for their dedication, curiosity, and stamina as we continue our journey through Germany’s Universities of Excellence. Universities of Excellence on-site visit no. 3 completed – this time down south in Munich! This week marked our third visit, and after heading west and north in our previous trips, we have now reached the south, with Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. We would like to sincerely thank the LMU München for their excellent preparation and for cordially hosting us during the last two days. As always, our sincere appreciation to our international panel of reviewers and the four members of the Committee of Experts whose valuable insights, efforts and commitment have greatly contributed to this work. Der Wissenschaftsrat trifft Studierende und junge Wissenschaftler:innen in Greifswald.   Wenn wissenschaftspolitische Debatten geführt und richtungsweisende Entscheidungen - bspw. im Hochschulsektor - vorbereitet werden, schaut der wissenschaftliche Nachwuchs besonders aufmerksam hin.   Nicht nur an ihren jeweiligen Standorten sind Universitäten und Studierende wichtige Teilnehmende am offenen gesellschaftlichen Diskurs.   Am 8. Oktober durften wir zu Gast sein an der Universität Greifswald. In Kooperation mit WR-Mitglied Eva-Lotta Brakemeier fand dort ein Workshop des Wissenschaftsrats mit 19 kreativen und hoch engagierten Teilnehmenden statt: Wie bekannt ist der WR an der Uni? Wie können die Perspektiven des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses eingebracht werden?   Eine Erkenntnis: Der #Wissenschaftsrat ist mit seinen Themen bei dieser Zielgruppe an genau der richtigen Stelle. Zugleich müssen und werden wir noch mehr tun, um die Relevanz und Wirksamkeit unserer Arbeit zu vermitteln.   Danke an alle Teilnehmenden für diesen inspirierenden Tag und alles Gute für euren weiteren Weg im deutschen Wissenschaftsystem! Und ebenso herzlichen Dank an Eva-Lotta Brakemeier und Sarah Stapel für die Gastfreundschaft und tolle Organisation.

Another step forward with the second evaluation visit successfully completed! The second evaluation visit finished yesterday, this time at the Universität Hamburg – and with it, another important step in our ongoing evaluation of the current 10 Universities of Excellence. Thanks so much to the University of Hamburg for the meticulous organization of our visit and their kind hospitality. Once again, special thanks also go to another excellent panel of international reviewers and the four members of our Committee of Experts for their important input, diligence and dedication over the last two days. Excellence Strategy — First on-site visit is in the books! Yesterday, we completed the first of ten on-site visits at the Universities of Excellence, which took place at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. These visits are an essential part of our ongoing evaluation process for the Excellence Strategy's Universities of Excellence funding line. We would like to thank the University of Bonn for their excellent preparation and warm hospitality.
