But much of this is also home-grown. In our industry, personnel costs have risen by around 30 percent over the past four years, which naturally puts pressure on locations. Conversely, however, we as an industry also lack self-confidence. Europe has all the resources it needs for a successful future, for example the strongest internal market in the world and thus the potential for a high degree of sovereignty. Of course, it costs money to reduce energy dependence, build sustainable power plants, and expand grid networks. But these costs are also investments. The next chapter of Made in Germany begins with #DeepTech. Yesterday in Berlin, we presented our new #BCG study together with the BDI - Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie e.V. on how Germany can secure a leading position in future technologies and boost its competitiveness. The message is clear: the future doesn’t wait. It starts now. Our study shows the immense scale of the opportunity: By 2030, Deep Tech could create €8 trillion in value worldwide. Yet less than 10% of global Deep Tech unicorns are European today, and around half of late-stage funding comes from outside the EU. We need to take huge steps in order to keep up with the US and China in this highly competitive race.
