📣 EFRAG SRB Releases Statement on Omnibus Proposals Following the publication of the Omnibus proposals today, the EFRAG Sustainability Reporting Board (SRB) met officials of the European Commission in the afternoon to exchange views on the CSRD and ESRS related provisions of the proposals. The SRB unanimously expressed its willingness and commitment to participate in the proposed simplification process on the provisions that are crucial to the successful implementation of the relevant, reliable and proportionate sustainability-related data environment needed to meet the sustainable development and sustainable finance objectives of the Union. ▶️https://lnkd.in/eNZX95FY

The Commission had an opportunity in its Omnibus proposal to focus on the guidance needed to strip away the appearance of complexity and show what straightforward implementation of sustainability due diligence and reporting entails. Instead, the Commission’s Omnibus Simplification Proposal is an own goal. It would actually make life more complicated for both large and small companies. Negotiations in the coming months must be grounded in a grasp of what actually works in sustainability due diligence and reporting, if the final package is to make sense. 🚨 EU Omnibus Directive: Major Changes to Sustainability Reporting! 🚨 The European Commission has published the Omnibus Directive, revising the CSRD and CSDDD to reduce compliance burdens and delay implementation. 🔑 Key Updates: ✅ CSRD Delayed – Second and third reporting waves postponed by two years. ✅ Smaller Scope – Only companies with 1,000+ employees must report, excluding ~80% of firms. ✅ Simplified Standards – No sector-specific ESRS, reducing complexity. ✅ CS3D Limited to Tier 1 – Due diligence obligations apply only to direct business partners (unless risk is identified), and civil liability rules are removed. ✅ EU Taxonomy Opt-in – Companies below €450M turnover can choose to report Taxonomy KPIs, reducing compliance costs for those without sustainable activities. My two cents on these changes: 1️⃣ The EU has long argued that sustainability drives competitiveness. Yet, the reporting of companies under 1,000 employees is now seen as a regulatory burden rather than a competitive advantage. Will this shift truly enhance EU competitiveness? 2️⃣ Some member states have already implemented these regulations, and now have 12 months to adjust. Given that they can still go beyond minimum requirements, we might end up with more regulatory fragmentation rather than simplification. The legislative proposals will now be submitted to the European Parliament and the Council for their consideration and adoption. What do you think? Will these changes create clarity or confusion? The European Commission’s Omnibus Proposal aims to simplify sustainability reporting under CSRD, CSDDD, and the EU Taxonomy. Still, one thing is clear: if the proposal is enforced into law, transparency and accountability will remain non-negotiable. What’s being proposed? ✔ CSRD scope: Fewer companies may be required to report – from 50,000+ to under 7,000 ✔ CSRD threshold: Only companies with >1,000 employees and €50 million in revenue or €25 million in balance sheet total will be required to report. ✔ CSRD sector-specific reporting standards: May be removed ✔ CSDDD reporting deadlines: May be delayed by up to 2 years. ✔ CSDDD reporting requirements: Supply chain due diligence may be limited to direct suppliers. ✔ EU Taxonomy: Simplify EU Taxonomy obligations, reducing mandatory disclosures by 70%. What does this mean for businesses? These changes are not yet final. The European Parliament and Council must approve them before becoming law. Existing regulations remain in force until amendments are formally adopted and implemented. Companies must stay informed and prepare for multiple scenarios. What should companies do now? Stay proactive. These are still proposals. Waiting for final decisions could mean falling behind. The best sustainability strategies go beyond compliance. They future-proof businesses. Leaders who act now will have a competitive edge. We’re turning complex sustainability data into something companies can actually use! 🚛 📦 Many companies struggle to track their indirect emissions from things like suppliers, transport or materials, because the data is scattered, hard to access and not standardised. We are developing new ways to collect and manage this data more reliably. 📊 “The main goal is to support better decision-making and catalyze shared emission reduction target setting with stakeholders,” says VTT’s Nina Wessberg. 🤝 The project currently focuses on the value chains of packaging and logistics, but the concept can also be applied to other sectors.
