On 17 January 2023, the European Commission published the Staff Working Document  The impact of demographic change in a changing environment. This report presents the drivers of demographic change and their impact across Europe, updating and developing the Demography Report issued in 2020. It discusses both firmly established long-term trends and more recent developments caused by sudden crises, notably the COVID-19 pandemic.

Demographic toolbox

On 11 October 2023, the European Commission presented a demography toolbox , which consists of a set of policy tools to support EU countries to manage their demographic change and its impacts on their societies and economies. The accompanying communication calls for all EU policies to be future oriented and to support the shift from an aging to a longevity society.
