According to the Eurocities Pulse Mayors Survey 2025, expanding public transport is the single most pressing mobility priority, with 60% of mayors ranking it among their top three actions this year, followed by affordability, accessibility, and integrated multimodal systems. But ambition isn’t the issue. Cities face: 🔧 High operating and maintenance costs 💶 Lack of funding ♿ Accessibility and affordability challenges Mayors warn that without stronger EU support, including long-term funding and better governance tools, public transport risks decline, with wider consequences for congestion, emissions, and social equity. That’s why EIT Urban Mobility has joined leading transport networks to urge the European Commission to ensure the Sustainable Transport Investment Plan (STIP) supports a transformative approach to urban and regional mobility, essential to achieving the EU’s sustainability, equity, and competitiveness goals. 💶 €1 invested in public transport = €6.50 in regional benefits 👉 https://lnkd.in/d7v9YaQT #UrbanMobility #PublicTransport #UrbanPlanning #Multimodality

Transport is now 100% emissions-free. This isn't true…yet! But what if it was? 🤔 Well, the benefits would be undeniable: 🌬️ Cleaner air: Electric buses cut lifetime emissions by up to two-thirds. 💼 Smarter spending: Every $1 in clean transport returns $4 to the economy. 🌍 Healthier lives: Less smog means fewer illnesses and quieter, safer streets. The good news is that the transition is already happening around the globe! + Shenzhen runs 16,000+ electric buses, cutting CO₂ by nearly 48%. + Germany’s hydrogen trains save over 4,000 tons of CO₂ a year. At #TMWC25 (4 - 6 November, Barcelona), we're shaping a zero-emission urban future that works for everyone. The European Commission’s proposal for the next EU long-term budget sends a clear message: 👉 Innovation 👉 Skills 👉 Competitiveness 👉 Sustainability …will shape Europe’s future. With €175 billion proposed for #HorizonEU, and a tripled budget for its Innovation Pillar, it's encouraging to see strong recognition of the knowledge triangle — integrating education, research, and business to drive real-world impact. 💡 Innovation is no longer just a policy goal; it's Europe’s path to sustainable growth, resilience, and global leadership. That’s exactly what we do at EIT Urban Mobility: we connect cities, startups, universities, and industry to turn bold ideas into clean, smart urban mobility solutions. This renewed investment in innovation can help accelerate the shift toward sustainable, connected, people-centred mobility across Europe. 🗓️ As the negotiations move forward, we look forward to the next phase of discussions and to continuing our mission: driving sustainable mobility to advance liveable cities for all. #MFF #FP10 #EIT #UrbanMobility #InnovationEcosystems #EUTC #SustainableMobility #EITCommunity
The European Commission put forward its proposal for the Horizon Europe Framework Programme (2028–2034), a transformative vision to strengthen Europe’s global leadership in research, innovation, and technology. With a proposed €175 billion budget and tightly connected to the upcoming European Competitiveness Fund, the programme will boost Europe’s productivity and competitiveness, while also improving the well-being of millions of people across the continent. It will build on the achievements and success of the current research and innovation programme (2021-2027) and focus on four key pillars: - Excellent Science: supporting top-tier research to drive groundbreaking discoveries. - Competitiveness & Society: tackling societal challenges and boosting competitiveness. - Innovation: bridging the gap between research and market-ready solutions. - European Research Area: uniting Europe’s research ecosystems for a stronger, more collaborative future. A recent project helped Lisbon’s e-buses cut “lost kilometres” by 30%. Here’s how: The IMPULSE project, led by CARNET and supported by EIT Urban Mobility, is helping cities improve the management of electric bus fleets with a smart software platform. Processing real-time data on: 🔋 battery status 🚌 vehicle & charging station availability 📍 live network conditions 🗺️ and route planning …the system helped Lisbon reduce the number of kilometres driven without passengers (known as lost kilometres) by nearly a third. 👀 Why does this matter? Lost kilometres = higher costs, operational efficiency, and service’s carbon footprint. Following the pilot, Portugal’s operator Carris expressed interest in expanding the solution. And Lisbon isn’t alone: The same platform was also piloted in Turkey, where things played out very differently. Curious to know why? Dive into the full case 👇 #UrbanMobility #Marketplace #Electrification #Innovation
