#CitizenScience Spotlight Since 2012, Observadores del Mar (OdM) has been Spain’s leading marine citizen science platform, engaging thousands of citizens in ocean research and conservation. In 2024, the platform launched OdM Climate, a new initiative aimed at studying the impacts of climate change on Mediterranean ecosystems. Through a network of 33 diving centres across the Spanish Mediterranean, OdM Climate connects scientists and divers using a train-the-trainer model. This empowers local diving communities to apply scientific monitoring protocols and contribute to long-term, citizen-driven marine research. 🌊 By bridging science and society, OdM Climate is expanding knowledge of how climate change affects our seas. ✨🌍 Citizen Science Takes Centre Stage at Ars Electronica At this year’s Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, IMPETUS for citizen science! highlighted how #citizenscience continues to thrive in times of crisis — inspiring change across #education, #democracy, #AI, #policy, and the #arts. 💡 Festival highlights: 🐝 Demo Day, where our accelerator cohort pitched bold projects (with Beecode Berlin taking the win). ⚖️ Engaging panels on trust, equity, and policy in citizen science. 🏆 Celebrations with EU Prize for Citizen Science winners: HEROINES, MoF-Waste, and Anti-Quake Risk Hunter Community. 🎉 Immersive experiences — from robotic choirs to the Datawalk along the Danube — where art and tech blended to spark fresh perspectives. Though this was our final official Ars Electronica as IMPETUS, the mission goes on.
