This invention is a system, device and method for the detection based on pressure of encapsulated objects in a blister pack. The present invention pertains to the field of physical technology, electronics and computing, to develop a mobile tool of small size, which is suitable for personal use. This system detects and counts the number of objects in a blister. It also offers extended functionality to allow the programming of alarms, events, reminders, usage record, and logging. Finally, this also offers communication capabilities to allow (remote and local) access to the status of the device and queries to the usage record.

This patent has been also used by the product HIGEA BOX, which has been exhibited by Telefónica Digital at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona 2012, as a “smart drug dispenser” based on Internet of Things.

A method for determining pollutant emission sources comprises an initial phase of collecting information from the study area, determining suitable locations for sample collectors using chemical and meteorological models such as CHIMERE and WRF. In an intermediate phase, samples are analyzed using techniques adapted to the specific pollutant, focusing on particle concentration. The final phase involves analyzing the data and information gathered in previous stages to identify and locate pollutant sources. This analysis includes a statistical study of percentiles and meteorological conditions to detect significant exceedances in particle concentration, as well as an analysis using a Positive Matrix Factorization (PMF) model to break down concentrations according to pollution factors. This comprehensive approach allows for the accurate determination of pollution sources and their specific contributions in the study area.

Libelium uses the CHIMERE chemical transport model, a multi-scale, open-source system that ranges from hemispheric to urban scales. This model integrates:

CHIMERE: Calculates chemical concentrations based on emission models and meteorological data.
IoT sensors and satellite observations: Calibrate the model and provide real-time data on air quality.
Pollution source algorithm: Uses a semi-automatic clustering approach in two stages, identifying pollution patterns and associating them with specific sectors.

Libelium’s solution is organized into several layers:
Data collection layer: With IoT devices and satellite data.
CHIMERE simulation engine: Feeds contextual intelligence.
Contextual intelligence layer: Generates heat maps and pollution source calculations.
Insights visualization in the user interface.

The CHIMERE model, enhanced with AI, allows detailed pollution analysis with a multi-scale approach, ranging from satellite panoramic resolutions to are 1km to the urban area of less than 100 meters. This detailed resolution is possible thanks to a downscaling is done with Street Canyon models to street levels increasing the resolution to a level of tens of meters.

IoT devices and satellite data are crucial for fine-tuning this model.
Additionally, the AI solution incorporates further innovation in the pollution source algorithm, as it can semi-automatically cluster pollution sources. Using the advanced CHIMERE model, combined with the latest IoT sensor technology and satellite analysis, Libelium measures air quality and identifies the exact pollution sources (port, dessert sand or works pollution).

SynchroniCity represents the first attempt to deliver a Single Digital City Market for Europe by piloting its foundations at scale in 11 reference zones - 8 European cities & 3 more worldwide cities - connecting 34 partners from 11 countries over 4 continents. Building upon a mature European knowledge base derived from initiatives such as OASC, FIWARE, FIRE, EIP-SCC, and including partners with leading roles in standardization bodies, e.g. ITU, ETSI, IEEE, OMA, IETF, SynchroniCity will deliver a harmonized ecosystem for IoT-enabled smart city solutions where IoT device manufacturers, system integrators and solution providers can innovate and openly compete. With an already emerging foundation, SynchroniCity will establish a reference architecture for the envisioned IoT-enabled city market place with identified interoperability points and interfaces and data models for different verticals. This will include tools for co-creation & integration of legacy platforms & IoT devices for urban services and enablers for data discovery, access and licensing lowering the barriers for participation on the market. SynchroniCity will pilot these foundations in the reference zones together with a set of citizen-centred services in three high-impact areas, showing the value to cities, businesses and citizens involved, linked directly to the global market. With a running start, SynchroniCity will serve as lighthouse initiative to inspire others to join the established ecosystem and contribute to the emerging market place. SynchroniCity takes an inclusive approach to grow the ecosystem by inviting businesses and cities to join through an open call, allowing them to participate on the pioneering market place enabling a second wave of successful pilots. They will strengthen the ecosystem by creating a positive ripple effect throughout Europe, and globally, to establish a momentum and critical mass for a strong European presence in a global digital single market of IoT-enabled solutions

The IPSO (Internet Protocol for Smart Objects) Alliance successfully concluded IPSO CHALLENGE 2013 today by awarding first, second and third place prizes at Sensors Expo in Chicago. This contest was launched by IPSO in February to both promote and contribute to the development of the Internet of Things.

All finalist teams were flown in by IPSO to participate in the IoT Pavilion at Sensors Expo and be on-hand for the award ceremony. “IPSO CHALLENGE was a great experience and event to present our Energy Monitoring platform,” said Mariano Alvira, CEO of Redwire Consulting.

“As a small company, this has been a unique opportunity to get international exposure for our smart objects,” shared Colin O’Flynn, CTO of Colorado Micro Devices.

Antonio Jara, CTO of viBrain, stated: “This contest motivated and challenged us to move from an idea to a real, working prototype.”

A prize of $2500 was awarded to viBrain Solutions and the University of Murcia with Smart Lighting – a scalable IP monitoring and control solution for street light networks. “The quality of implementation and functionality of the prototype was very impressive,” stated Tom Herbst, IPSO Alliance board member.
