In my AI workflows, I like to reduce randomness to a minimum. For years, I’ve relied on a mood generator - a hybrid process using image-to-image and ControlNet - to guide both geometry and light. Until recently, this was possible only with SDXL, because FLUX simply wasn’t delivering the consistency I needed. But after months of testing, I had a breakthrough: FLUX is now my new standard. The process is straightforward but powerful: 1_Load an image for geometry control 2_Write the prompt 3_Load a second image to control the light The outcome? Consistently nailing the reference mood, every single time. Our design approach prioritized: – Structural clarity within historical voids – Controlled contrast through refined spatial interventions – Fluid transitions between interior and exterior zones Imagining what it could become, the design focused not on replicating the past, but on layering new experiences within it. The intervention embraced adaptive strategies: rooftop patios on former haylofts, pools sunken into ruined courtyards, and garden rooms framed by crumbling masonry. These boutique scale transformations allowed the architecture to remain grounded in place while opening it up to light, leisure, and contemporary living. I am finally sharing tips on computational design portfolios! Hope this helps you when updating yours... Late Weekend Insight | #104 With Computational Design skills and discussions becoming more mainstream and demanded, architects and engineers gaining those new skills need to update their portoflios accordingly. After reviewing a lot of CD focused portfolios, I wrote these insights and tips that can guide you to land that impact you wanted on the reviewer. There is no "right way" to do it, and maybe I was bias in some of these points, but I am sure they will come in handy! Last tip: A lot can be gained from just looking at someone's portfolio, so don't be "lazy" and give it the time it needs. Things like style, quality of work, design maturity, experience, and even character can all be deducted from just skimming through a portfolio!
