LOS SUSTANTIVOS (NOUNS)
•In Spanish, all nouns have gender – they are either masculine or feminine.
• There is no way to tell for sure what gender a noun is so you must memorize it.
• For example, you might assume that a woman’s dress would be feminine, but in
Spanish it’s not. It’s masculine (el vestido). You might assume a man’s tie would be
masculine, but it’s not. It’s feminine (la corbata).
• So how de we know for sure the gender of a noun in Spanish?
• We look at the article before it.
• For exmple: el escritorio = the desk
• The article “el” lets us know it is masculine.
