This year's prize from the Micius Quantum Foundation celebrates quantum simulation in optical lattices, a field which Esslinger and his group in the Department of Physics have been spearheading from the very beginning.
Trillions of microorganisms in our gut have a significant impact on our health by releasing metabolic products that interact with our body in many ways. Researchers at ETH Zurich and Stanford University have calculated, for the first time, exactly how many of these molecules arrive in our body every day.
The grant will allow Degen and his group in the Department of Physics to develop a photonic integrated circuit for single-photon-emitter excitation and detection, with future commercial use in optical quantum sensing and communication.
