Czech project wins REGIOSTARS 2025 for early support to families after childbirth

Winners accepting the award during the REGIOSTARS ceremony

A Czech project funded by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) has received the 2025 REGIOSTARS Award in the category A social and inclusive Europe. Early support for families at risk offers free psychosocial support to women after childbirth, linking health and social services to ensure comprehensive care during post-partum distress.

Helping women and families after childbirth

Many women experience post-partum distress but do not receive the care they need. To address this, the project developed an online screening tool and introduced care coordinators who connect mothers to psychological and social services.

Pilot testing at Thomayer Hospital in Prague showed that the model is effective and well accepted. It has since paved the way for the first integrated system in Czechia for identifying and supporting women and families at risk of psychosocial stress after childbirth.

Recognising innovative EU-funded projects

The REGIOSTARS Awards celebrate the most inspiring EU-funded projects across Europe. The 2025 ceremony took place on 16 October in Brussels, during the European Week of Regions and Cities. Six projects were honoured across five thematic categories and one Public Choice Award, selected from a record 266 applications.

“Turning social rights into real change”

Executive Vice-President for Social Rights and Skills, Quality Jobs and Preparedness, Roxana Mînzatu, said:

“EU-funded programmes help people across Europe in their everyday lives – be it at local, regional or national level. Turning social rights into real change and long-lasting opportunity for people is a priority for Europe. The award-winning projects of this year are great examples that show how EU policies and funding can improve people’s lives and make a real difference.”
