  • Qurious to know what it’s like to be in a field where a new job often comes with a new country? Cameron Lauvitel (formerly Spence) joined SemiQon as Lead of Quantum processor design in the summer of 2025 and joined the team in Espoo after previously living and working in the UK, Switzerland and France.   “I always knew I wanted to do science, but when I finished high school, I actually didn’t get straight into university. When I went to the University of York to study Physics, I started out with astrophysics. However, when I started the courses on quantum mechanics, I was hooked. I looked into the field more, and discovered the - at the time, fairly niche - idea of quantum computing and thought: ‘Okay, this is what I want to do’. I finished my doctorate at Institut Néel CNRS in Grenoble, and entered the quantum field at an interesting time, when it was only beginning to take shape. I’ve had the chance to work at a quantum startup at Riverlane, and also in an established HPC firm on their quantum agenda. At SemiQon, it’s been exciting to come into a more senior role. It can be intimidating, of course, but I prefer having more responsibility and pressure rather than being a part of a larger team where there really isn’t that much riding on you, but also, you don’t make that much of an impact. In my role, I’m essentially designing a motherboard for a quantum computer alongside some very skilled IC designers; they design the circuitry, I design the qubits. I am developing the quantum dot structures and the technology that we need to control, entangle, and read out our qubits. Alongside that, I’m also planning for the future: How do we scale our architecture? What do we do when and how long is it going to take? It’s definitely a challenge, but really interesting.” One of the fortunate things about working in quantum is that people who work in the field tend to be excited about it, and that’s definitely the case for SemiQon!”

  • Strategic EIC funding boosts deep tech    Our two co-founders, Chief Science Officer, Janne Lehtinen, and Chief Research Officer, Mika Prunnila, sat down with Finnish business weekly, Talouselämä, to talk about the opportunities of public EU funding for startups and scaleups and share insights on why the EIC Accelerator program has been significant for SemiQon's commercialization journey so far.   As Janne and Mika explain in the article, the value of the EIC financing extends far beyond the capital itself. The program opens doors to European deep tech networks, pilot opportunities with customers, and new opportunities for innovation and partnerships.   The funding is highly competitive, but as Janne puts it: "Everything the funding brings is worth the effort."   The full article is available (in Finnish) for subscribers: https://lnkd.in/dFrdyYEu

  • Finland’s quantum momentum continues to inspire.   Great to see The Dong-A Ilbo (동아일보) highlighting how decades of Finnish investment in science and technology are now shaping the global quantum landscape. From Espoo’s growing quantum ecosystem to the national commitment behind it, the story highlights what long-term scientific investment can achieve. A big thank you to Enter Espoo for being a key enabler in the innovation ecosystem driving Finland’s quantum progress.   At SemiQon, we continue to work closely with Finland’s quantum and semiconductor ecosystems. The future of quantum computing depends on scaling, and that scaling will come through the precision and expertise of the semiconductor industry. By uniting quantum innovation with semiconductor technology, we’re making scalability not just achievable, but sustainable and efficient. https://lnkd.in/dUdT5zZM

  • Is it time to give the quantum chandelier a makeover? ✨ Quantum computers are expanding, but to be commercially viable, they must become smaller, more efficient, and cost-effective. Today, control electronics remain one of the biggest bottlenecks limiting scalability and affordability. Recognizing this challenge, we set out to overcome it and achieved a breakthrough that’s transforming quantum hardware today: 𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐐𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐫𝐲𝐨-𝐂𝐌𝐎𝐒, the world’s first transistor fully optimized for cryogenic conditions, integrating qubit control directly inside the cryostat. • It was definitely a tasty Monday at the SemiQon office today! 😋   We organized a potluck where everyone brought a dish they love or grew up with, sharing food, stories, laughter, and even a few secret family recipes along the way. Our team has grown and it's getting harder for all of us to regularly come together. So what better way than food to get people connect and get to know each other a little better beyond the usual day-to-day.   You might be surprised to know that our ever-growing team now includes talents from over 10 different nationalities each bringing their own flavor, culture, and perspective to the mix.   Together, our diverse backgrounds bring out the best of many worlds. Our complementary skillsets allow us to push the limits of what has previously been possible and to create entirely new, disruptive solutions. 🚀

Last night we were awarded the First Prize – “Impact Expected” at the 2025 EARTO - European Association of Research and Technology Organisations Innovation Awards in Brussels, for our cryogenic CMOS chip technology, and our CEO Himadri Majumdar got to take the stage with VTT’s President and CEO Kalle Härkki 🏆   Huge thanks to the teams at SemiQon and VTT, our collaborators, and everyone in the quantum + semiconductor ecosystem who’s pushing this frontier alongside us. Let’s build momentum and turn this recognition into real-world impact – that’s where our technology comes alive.   As Himadri put it: “Although cryogenic electronics may seem niche today, they will soon become mainstream first driven by quantum computing and aerospace. SemiQon, leveraging VTT’s foundational work, is proud to be driving this shift globally. We’re truly honored to receive this award, which highlights the promise of our technology and the impact we aim to create.” Discover more from the article here: https://lnkd.in/dPeTHUxV #quantum #semiconductors #cryoCMOS #innovation #deeptech #spaceTech #EARTO #research #technology   European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA)  Business Finland ARCTIC-KDT
