Boosting social businesses for impact on health

À propos

We are an impact fund that empowers pioneering and social entrepreneurs who provide access to quality food and safe drinking water to vulnerable populations through local businesses and innovative solutions. We stand by them at every step. Additionally to our long-term financial support; we provide expertise, networks, and business support relevant to their local context for their journey to success, also fueled by the dedication and investment of Danone's own employees. We're bringing communities together, fostering partnerships, and co-investing with others to tackle the world's toughest challenges. Our story began when Danone and Nobel Peace Prize Pr Yunus joined forces in 2007. Since then, Danone Communities has been a driving force behind Danone's global mission to bring health to as many people as possible, building a better, brighter future for all. As of 2023, Danone Communities supported 20 businesses in 25 countries, impacting 11 million people every day, thus contributing to the Danone Impact Journey commitments on health.

At Danone, we believe that access to quality nutrition is a fundamental right.   On this World Food Day, we celebrate the power of partnerships to build a healthier future.   Through Danone Communities, our impact investment fund, and other impact-initiatives, we work hand in hand with social entrepreneurs, communities, and partners to scale innovative, locally rooted solutions that improve nutrition and health, especially for the most vulnerable. • In France, we support Programme Malin, which has improved the health of 300,000 children aged 0 to 3. • Globally, we partner with Lucky Iron Life, helping over 1 million people fight iron deficiency.  • In Indonesia, we support Nazava Water Filters 💦 B Corp, providing affordable water filters to prevent stunting and promote healthy child development    #WorldFoodDay #DanoneCommunities #ImpactInvesting #Partnerships

General Manager Danone Communities- Board Members - Business experience in Healthcare & Sustainability

Being back in India with the Naandi team is a powerful reminder of why this mission matters. For years, Danone Communities has supported Naandi Water | Certified B Corp in its journey to scale impact through a financially sustainable model. Together, we’ve worked to improve public health by enabling access to safe drinking water, one community at a time. Under the leadership of Divya Yachamaneni, Naandi has built a model that is not only inclusive and community-driven, but also deeply empowering for women. By hiring and training women to manage water kiosks, Naandi demonstrates how access to safe drinking water can transform health outcomes, strengthen nutrition, and foster gender equity. As Managing Director of Danone Communities and a board member of Naandi, I’ve had the privilege to contribute beyond funding, bringing strategic guidance, field insights, and a long-term commitment to building resilient social businesses. This work is a call to action for others to join us. This visit also highlights the power of partnerships. Collaborations with values-aligned corporates like Sanofi Consumer Healthcare are enabling the deployment of new water centers. Equally essential is the engagement of local stakeholders - panchayats, schools, and community members - who ensure the long-term success and ownership of these initiatives. Naandi’s model is rooted in deep community integration. Across 696 villages in 7 states, they’ve built a decentralized network of Community Water Centers. In 2024 alone, 522 centers reached over 592,000 people, with measurable health outcomes: the incidence of diarrhea dropped from 24% to just 1% (source: Naandi studies). I believe that scalable impact comes from sustainable economic models, strengthened by long-term partnerships and shared expertise. That belief guides every conversation, every decision, and every step I take on this vibrant land. 🙏 Grateful to all those who make this journey possible, especially my team at Danone Communities, a group of passionate professionals committed to building a healthier future. #DanoneCommunities #SafeDrinkingWater #PartnershipForImpact #SocialBusiness #WomenEmpowerment #HealthEquity

Business Development Director Waters Access at DANONE. COMMUNITIES

Attending World Water Week, hosted by SIWI in Stockholm, we are here to share the progress we’ve made in forging co-financing partnerships that support innovative safe water enterprises delivering tangible health benefits. Access to safe drinking water is not only a fundamental right, it’s a proven driver of public health. It can reduce waterborne diseases by up to 61%*, particularly diarrhea and plays a critical role in supporting nutrition and child development. This year, we’re celebrating a major milestone: 20.8 million people now have access to safe water thanks to the incredible work of the social businesses supported by Danone Communities and the Water Access Acceleration Fund (W2AF). More specifically, I would like to pay tribute to the amazing work of some of the entrepreneurs who will join the Conference: In Bangladesh, Drinkwell operates over 300 kiosks treating arsenic and iron-contaminated water, in partnership with the local utility.  In Central America, @Cova brings safe drinking water to rural communities through an innovative professional maintenance service model.  In India, Naandi Water | Certified B Corp treats water that is heavily polluted with fluoride, arsenic, nitrates, salinity and iron, through a hybrid business model that enhances health at scale.  They are proof that innovative business models can scale impact sustainably. World Water Week is a space to connect with co-investors, entrepreneurs, and partners who believe, like we do, that business can be a force for good. *source: WHO 2019 #WorldWaterWeek #SIWI2025 #DanoneCommunities #SafeDrinkingWater

  • This week, a joint initiative was inaugurated in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Indonesia, with the goal of improving the health of local communities through access to safe drinking water. The project is the result of a powerful collaboration between Danone Indonesia and Nazava Water Filters 💦 B Corp, a social business supported by Danone Communities since 2021. Recognizing the challenges faced by remote communities, the initiative will enable access of 1,000 Nazava water filters to households across NTT to help reduce the risk of waterborne diseases such as recurrent diarrhoea, which can hinder nutrient absorption and contribute to stunting. The inauguration ceremony, held in Oenaek and Sumlili villages, was attended by Retno Marsudi, UN Special Envoy for Water, along with leaders from Danone, Nazava, and local authorities. This is not the first collaboration between Danone Indonesia and Nazava. Since 2022, they have equipped schools with water filters, reaching 76,000 students in 2024. The availability of safe drinking water has led to a fourfold increase in hydration levels among students. This initiative is a clear example of how social enterprises from the Danone Communities portfolio can help scale impact, strengthen local partnerships, and contribute to national health priorities. #SafeDrinkingWater #HealthyHydration #Danone

In line with Danone’s commitment to expanding access to safe drinking water and improving health outcomes, Danone Communities is proud to invest in Cova — an innovative organization transforming rural water systems in Central America.💧 In Honduras, Nicaragua, and El Salvador, many communities rely on aging water systems that often fail due to poor maintenance and lack of oversight. Cova is transforming this reality by: ✅ Upgrading infrastructure with chlorination and regular water quality testing. ✅ Training and empowering local communities. ✅ Providing long-term technical support through field agents. ✅ Partnering with local health and municipal authorities. With a blended financing model and support from Danone Communities' expertise, Cova aims to reach 3.7 million people by 2030, significantly reducing waterborne diseases and improving lives! This investment is a key step in our #DanoneImpactJourney, bringing our mission — #health through #hydration — to life for vulnerable populations. Want to know more 👀? • A basic need, a global crisis : 55% of the population lacks access to safe drinking water. Danone Communities addresses this challenge by supporting safe water enterprises worldwide.   Together, we enable vulnerable populations to drink more and drink better. Water filters of Nazava Water Filters 💦 B Corp in Indonesia, Water kiosks of Naandi Water in India, or community water systems in Nigeria are just a few examples of the innovative models and solutions that are sold, with a large-scale impact on the health of millions of consumers. "Before Naandi, children suffered from fluoride-contaminated water. Now, they're healthy and can attend school," says a village headmistress, using the water filtered and sold in rural areas in India. On March 22nd, World Water Day was the occasion for Danone Communities to celebrate our unique approach to water advocacy with powerful facts. Today, Danone Communities and the W2AF* support 12 safe water enterprises giving access to safe drinking water to more than 20 millions of consumers every day.     *W2AF = Water Access Acceleration Fund, the first water focused blended finance impact Fund with Danone as Anchor investor, managed by Incofin. #WorldWaterDay #ThatsDanoneWaters #DanoneCommunities #SafeDrinkingWater

We are thrilled to announce that the Water Access Acceleration Fund (W2AF), managed by Incofin Investment Management in which #Danone proudly invested in 2023, has made a new investment in SPOUTS International. This investment aims to expand safe water access in Africa, supporting local innovation to address water access and reduce carbon emissions🌍   Founded in 2014, SPOUTS manufactures and distributes ceramic water filters under the brand Purifaaya. These filters provide an affordable, safe drinking water solution, eliminating the need to boil water — a common practice in Africa that relies heavily on firewood and charcoal.   Through this investment, combined with an incredible collective work, the safe water enterprises supported by Danone Communities and the W2AF provided access to safe drinking water to 20.8 million people around the world in 2024.   At Danone, we believe that international cooperation combined with market-based solutions is an innovative approach that allows for large-scale impact. We aim to continue increasing the number of people with access to safe drinking water, striving for a sustainable impact on health!   Together, we can make a difference💧   #Danone #WaterAccess #Sustainability #ImpactInvestment #Innovation

This week is the national week of the fight against malnutrition in France, a critical time to highlight a pressing issue that affects 2 million people in France and over 2 billion worldwide… 💧 Proper hydration is crucial in preventing waterborne diseases like diarrhea. Those diseases prevent people’s ability to absorb the nutrients they receive, contributing to malnutrition. At Danone Communities we support social businesses around the world providing access to quality food and safe drinking water to vulnerable populations through innovative solutions. For example, by commercializing water filters for home use and distributing them for free in schools, Aqua Clara Kenya provides access to safe drinking water to over 105,000 people in Kenya, with a significant impact on their health: ➡️ A study* showed the reduction of the occurence of diarrhea among young children for 79% of households equipped with water filters, contributing to reduce the risks of stunting. By reducing waterborne diseases, we are making significant strides in the fight against malnutrition. Supporting such impactful initiatives makes a meaningful difference in the lives of millions of people, creating a sustainable impact on their health. This is what we stand for each day, at Danone Communities, together with the entrepreneurs and teams of the social business we support, and with local communities around the world. #Malnutrition #Healthyhydration #SafeDrinkingWater #ImpactonHealth #Socialbusiness *𝑆𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑐𝑒: 𝑆𝑎𝑓𝑖 𝐿𝑜𝑎𝑛𝑠 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑑𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑤𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑖𝑛 𝐾𝑒𝑛𝑦𝑎, 𝐶𝑙𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑠𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑠𝑓𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑖𝑚𝑝𝑎𝑐𝑡 𝑠𝑡𝑢𝑑𝑦 𝑟𝑒𝑝𝑜𝑟𝑡, 𝑊𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑛𝑦𝑎 𝑃𝑎𝑚𝑜𝑗𝑎 𝑆𝐴𝐶𝐶𝑂 𝑐𝑙𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑠, 𝐽𝑎𝑛𝑢𝑎𝑟𝑦 2018
