💧 Can being dehydrated influence how your body reacts to stress? New research conducted by experts at Danone Research & Innovation and Liverpool John Moores University suggests it just might! In a recent study, 32 healthy adults were grouped based on their habitual fluid intake and then underwent the Trier Social Stress Test. While participants showed similar heart rates and self-reported anxiety levels, those with signs of dehydration — like darker urine — had amplified stress hormone responses. According to Juliane Z., our Senior Scientific Affairs Manager: “This suggests that staying well-hydrated could be a simple yet effective way to help your body regulate stress hormones more efficiently”. The study is the first study to demonstrate that habitual low fluid intake may heighten cortisol reactivity to stress, potentially explaining its link to long-term health risks such as cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. On World Mental Health Day, we’re reminded that small daily habits can have a meaningful impact on our mental resilience. So - have you had enough water today? Diet-related cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death globally. Adopting a more plant-rich diet is one way to support better health. These diets are often naturally rich in fiber, healthy fats, vitamins, and bioactive compounds. More people are moving toward flexitarian patterns – combining plant-based and animal-based products. To support this shift, it is essential to ensure nutritional needs are still met. Some nutrients, like calcium, and vitamin B12, can be more difficult to get when animal products are reduced; while vitamin D and iodine are lacking in the general population, even in regions where food is widely available. Also, most adults still don’t reach fiber recommendations. That’s where nutrition science comes in. It helps us understand these gaps and offers practical ways to close them. 🧪 “Fortification gives us the chance to align science with everyday eating habits,” says Mariana Vilela Rocha, Senior Scientific Affairs Manager in Plant-Based at Danone R&I. “By adding essential nutrients to commonly consumed plant-based products like drinks or yogurt alternatives, we can help people meet their needs, starting with small and familiar steps.” 👇Explore the full infographic to see how science supports simple, health-forward choices. #NutritionForHealth #ScientificAffairs #FlexitarianDiet #PlantRichDiet #PublicHealthNutrition #PlantBased #DanoneR&I #HealthierFutures

🦠 If you’ve ever had digestion problems and automatically reached for the #probiotics, you’re not alone. But did you know that probiotic supplements aren’t a cure-all for gut microbiome issues? “Probiotics are often marketed as a solution for a wide range of health issues,” says Cyril Guyard, our Director of Microbiology. “While they can be beneficial in certain situations, it’s important to remember they’re not a universal cure. Plus, their effectiveness can vary from one person to the next.” Want to learn more about supporting gut health through nutrition solutions? In this collaborative study, Danone Research & Innovation experts and partners in the Netherlands followed 184 infants from birth to two years of age to explore the link between gut microbiota development and infantile colic (IC) – a condition marked by excessive crying in otherwise healthy babies. What the researchers found was surprising: - Unexpected shifts in gut bacteria before the emergence of symptoms - A potential link exists between early antibiotic exposure and colic risk - Distinct microbial patterns were observed in both early- and late-onset colic cases, with the most pronounced shifts occurring in early-onset colic “These insights could help pave the way for predicting which infants are at risk, offering a path toward personalized prevention or treatment strategies, including more targeted use of biotics” explains Jan Knol, Senior Director of Gut Immune & Microbiology at Danone R&I. ➡️ Want to learn more?
