'By standing together — as ombudsmen, as oversight bodies, as a bridge between institutions and citizens — we can help ensure that, even in times of uncertainty, governance in Europe evolves in a way that is not only efficient and effective, but also participatory and worthy of citizens’ trust.' – EU Ombudswoman Teresa Anjinho at Upholding Good Governance in Challenging Times: The Role of the Ombudsman, a conference organised by the Office of the Parliamentary Ombudsman - Malta to celebrate their 30th anniversary. We have opened an inquiry into how the European Commission ensures transparency, inclusiveness, and accountability in the development of harmonised EU standards for artificial intelligence (AI). 👉 https://lnkd.in/eambp7Uy ℹ Harmonised standards help companies meet the safety requirements laid down in EU legislation for products marketed in the EU. The Ombudswoman's inquiry follows a complaint from a civil society organisation concerned by the fact that the standardisation bodies responsible for developing AI standards for the Commission are required to publicly disclose information about the individuals working on them. The complainant also argues that the Commission has failed to ensure a balanced representation of interests in the standardisation process.
