The European Urban Initiative (EUI) is an instrument of the urban dimension of Cohesion policy. EUI supports European cities in developing transferable and scalable innovative solutions to urban challenges of European Union relevance. EUI supports cities of all sizes to tackle these challenges and contribute to sustainable development of the entire European Union and its citizens, and to build capacities and increase knowledge sharing in order to strengthen the transformative power of all EU urban areas. The Initiative has a total ERDF budget of EUR 450 million for the programming period 2021-2027. to create and offer opportunities and an environment for implementing bold urban strategies. These projects test new solutions, techniques and planning models, building capacities and sharing knowledge in sustainable urban development. EUI takes its roots in a strong commitment to strengthen the urban dimension of EU policies and the conviction of the EU that cities must be involved in the design and implementation of policy responses to their local challenges.

A #CitiesForum with sustainability at its core? Absolutely. 💚 From local sourcing to circular reuse, the Cities Forum 2025 in Kraków was designed to reduce environmental impact and truly walk the talk. 🌱 No brochures, no waste: all information was available via the event app. 🎁 Gifts? Plant-based seed bombs and seeded paper. 🚶 Venues and hotels were within walking distance or easily accessible by public transport. 🌿 Catering was plastic-free, fully vegetarian, and partnered with food banks to donate surplus food. 🔁 Wooden structures and signage were reused or recycled. 💡 The venue relied on natural daylight, energy-saving systems and waste separation. 🌳 And we even planted trees to honour the legacy of the Cities Forum. A huge thank you to all our partners, suppliers, WMH Project and ICE Kraków Congress Centre for helping make this happen. Let’s keep making cities, and events, better for people and the planet. 🌍 #SustainableEvents #UrbanTransformation #GreenCities #CircularEconomy
