What makes a surface matte instead of glossy? The answer: 🌋 Perlite found in volcanic rock. When it’s heated, perlite expands into tiny, porous particles that disperse light evenly✨ ➡️ This reduces gloss, creating matte finishes that better hide fingerprints and everyday wear. It also improves transparency in clear and wood coatings, and adds the bonus of sound and vibration-damping properties. That’s the science behind MATTE-XCEL™: ✔️ A perlite-based additive for controlled light diffusion ✔️ Without the harsh texture or strength loss of some alternatives Want to learn more about MATTE-XCEL™? Meet our team at the Western Coating Show on October 19 to 22 (booth: 510). YANJIA ZUO will be presenting on MATTE-XCEL on Monday 20th at 10am during the event. Can’t make it? We’re taking another major step toward our decarbonization goals. We’ve signed a 10-year Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) with ENGIE to produce 200 GWh of renewable electricity per year in Spain, which will contribute to reducing our global Scope 2 emissions in Continental Europe by 14% by 2028. This milestone joins similar agreements in the U.S. and China — accelerating our path to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2030 (2021 baseline). ✨ For the very first time in its history, our Luzenac plant opened its doors to more than 500 visitors. The occasion? Celebrating an incredible milestone: its 120th anniversary! 🎂 Families, employees, retirees, and local officials joined us to explore the site and discover its legacy. Deeply embedded in the local economy and community, this anniversary was not only a celebration of the past, but also a reaffirmation of our commitment to supporting the Ariège region for years to come. “Luzenac isn’t just an industrial site - it is tied to this mountain and to the local communities who bring it to life. Today, that spirit is more alive than ever,” said Alexandra Antunes Thevenin - South France & Spain Hub Director and Luzenac Site Director. 🌋The Romans used volcanic ash to build the Colosseum. Now it’s helping build low-carbon cities. In Oregon, Eco Material Technologies is using Imerys perlite co-product - essentially ancient volcanic ash - to create a cement formulation that’s more sustainable than existing traditional products. This once-overlooked material was sitting in stockpiles. Today, it helps cut emissions, support U.S. jobs, and reduce the need for carbon-intensive imports. "Our journey with Imerys shows that sustainability and profitability are not mutually exclusive; they reinforce each other," said Eco’s President Grant Quasha. Watch the video to see how smart reuse and powerful collaboration can create real impact. 🔗 Learn more: https://bit.ly/4ms07Bw
