Out today! South Africa has one of the youngest teaching workforces, with the highest percentage of teachers under the age of 30 years, among countries surveyed. This is a good sign, as the country is successfully attracting young talent into the workforce, something many other countries are struggling with. These were some of the national findings from the OECD’s latest Teaching and Learning International Survey, the largest teaching survey in the world. The results for South Africa were just launched after the G20 Summit, held in Kruger National Park. Key findings include: ▶️ over 90% of novice teachers feel satisfied with their initial teaching education, more than the OECD average ▶️ teachers also report growing complexity in the job, from supporting diverse learners to adapting to new technologies. The latest blog by Chetty Mark, Education Specialist at South Africa’s Department of Basic Education, looks at what the results mean for the country, and how schools can better support teachers. Women report higher levels of agreeableness and conscientiousness, and lower emotional stability than men in nearly all OECD countries. This is one of the findings from new analysis of the latest Survey of Adult Skills. The survey measured a range of social and emotional skills, showing how these correlate to various life outcomes, including: ▶️ educational attainment ▶️ employment ▶️ job satisfaction ▶️ wages. The results show that many social and emotional skills are linked to higher levels of these life outcomes. Beyond these, higher social and emotional skills are correlated to better reported health, civic engagement, and overall life satisfaction. Given the benefits of these skills, policies should focus on helping everyone strengthen them. Supporting social and emotional learning in education, training and workplaces can help narrow these gaps and ensure people have equal opportunities to thrive. See how social and emotional skills differ by socio-economic, immigrant or education background in the latest report, Skills that Matter for Success and Well-being in Adulthood, out now: https://lnkd.in/ezsDQPfJ #Education #Skills

Not all adults develop strong social and emotional skills, and family background can play a big role in shaping this. Across countries, adults with highly educated parents tend to be more open and extraverted. This was one of the findings in the new analysis on the latest Survey of Adult Skills, which explored how various demographic factors relate to social and emotional skills. These skills are important, because the evidence links them to various positive life outcomes such as: ▶️ educational attainment ▶️ employment ▶️ life satisfaction ▶️ wages. Given how valuable these skills are for learning, work and well-being, policies should focus on helping everyone strengthen them. Supporting social and emotional learning in education, training and workplaces can help narrow these gaps and ensure people have equal opportunities to thrive. New analysis from the latest Survey of Adult Skills shows the importance of social and emotional skills for people and societies. These skills aren't only linked to better education and work outcomes, but also to happiness, better health, and greater civic engagement. In most countries, adults high in extraversion or openness to experience are more likely to participate in volunteering activities, even after controlling for education and literacy skills. These skills matter for learning, work and well-being. Policies should focus on helping everyone strengthen them, not just at school, but throughout life. Social and emotional skills matter for how well adults do in their careers. That’s one finding from new analysis of the latest Survey of Adult Skills. It found that certain skills are linked to labour market success. These include: ▶️ conscientiousness ▶️ emotional stability ▶️ extraversion ▶️ openness to experiences. Cognitive skills like literacy still matter most when it comes to careers, but social and emotional skills also show associations with key employment outcomes. They are linked to the types of jobs people get, their income and how satisfied they are with work. Policies should focus on helping everyone get better skills, not just at school, but throughout life.
