Sport and Gender Equality - Persistent gaps revealed Did you know that in sport, women represent only 🟠 12% of federations presidents 🟠 23% of registered coaches 🟠 32% of officials 🟠 31% of federations members in the 21 jurisdictions analysed by the "All In Plus" joint EU - Council of Europe project? A new analytical report by the joint project highlights both progress and persistent disparities in gender equality across European sport. Issued at a conference in the framework of the Luxembourgish Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe today, the report provides a comprehensive analysis of gender equality in 21 jurisdictions in these key areas: 👉 leadership, 👉 coaching, 👉 officiating, 👉 participation from grass-roots to elite level, 👉 preventing gender-based violence, 👉 media/communication, and 👉 gender equality policies and programmes in sport. A Call to Action The Council of Europe and the European Commission urge governments, sports organisations, and other stakeholders to adopt and enforce policies that ensure equal opportunities for women and men in sport. Georges Mischo, Minister in charge of Sport in Luxembourg stated that "Gender equality in sport is not just a goal, but a fundamental right that we must tirelessly work towards." “The findings of this project serve as a wake-up call for the sports sector. While we see incremental progress, we must accelerate efforts to ensure that gender equality is not just an ambition but a reality,” said Matthias Kloth, Head of the Digital Governance and Sport Department at the Council of Europe. 🔐 Key Findings of the Report : https://lnkd.in/eFKxu6NF 🏅 Full report: https://lnkd.in/eqUu4kNu 💡 What is "All In Plus"?: https://lnkd.in/e_AAKQDa 📑 Conference programme: https://lnkd.in/emdCMjcF 🎙️ Press Contact: Paivi Suhonen, Communication adviser

🌍 Environment and Human Rights: A Visible Priority for the Council of Europe 📢 During a session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Parliamentary Network for a Healthy Environment met to discuss the Organisation’s growing commitment to environmental protection. 🔹 Rafael Benitez, Director of Social Rights, Health, and Environment, reaffirmed the Council of Europe’s dedication to this crucial issue: ✅ Human rights and the environment are deeply connected, and the Council of Europe plays a key role in addressing this intersection. ✅ In May 2023 in Reykjavík, Heads of State and Government recognised the urgent need to tackle climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution—mandating the Organisation to strengthen its efforts in this area. ✅ The Council of Europe has since stepped up its work, with major decisions expected in the May 2025 Committee of Ministers meeting including: 🟢 a Strategy on the Environment and 🟢 a new Convention on the Protection of the Environment through Criminal Law. ✅ Leaders also endorsed international political recognition of the right to a healthy, clean, and sustainable environment, encouraging its legal recognition at national levels. The European Court of Human Rights and the European Committee on Social Rights have already issued significant decisions on environmental issues affecting human rights. These provide an incredible background and basis on which to work. 🗣️ Rafael Benitez emphasized: “Environmental protection is a visible priority for the Organisation.” He also highlighted the crucial role of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Assembly and the Network in advancing this work. 🔎 As the Council of Europe continues to take bold steps, what actions do you think are most urgent for strengthening environmental protection through human rights? 🌐 For deeper insights 🦉 : 🔗 4th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Council of Europe member states in Reykjavík: https://lnkd.in/eTDTFGMz 🔗 Reykjavík process and the Environment: https://lnkd.in/dRjxBJ52 🔗 Environment and the European Convention on Human Rights case law: https://lnkd.in/dgxFqsEq 🔗 Parliamentary Network for a healthy environment: https://lnkd.in/dB4xJtkB 🔗 Full speech by Director Benitez 👉: https://go.coe.int/V2snt #HumanRights #Environment #ClimateAction
