Weekend Roundup: So Many Festivities, So Little Time


We’re into the full-on spirit and fun of the fall season now. Arts institutions are debuting their season openers; there are galas galore and the Nationals celebrate the last home weekend of the season. Have a great weekend!

Giddy Up—It’s Country Day at Nationals Park!

Friday evening marks the first Country Day at Nats Park. Guests are encouraged to celebrate country culture, and a cowboy hat is available for those who take advantage of the special ticket offer. Country music star Riley Green will be doing a postgame concert too. If you can’t make Friday’s festivities vs. the Chicago White Sox, the last Pups in the Park afternoon is Sunday. ‘Julius X’ Opens at Folger

Opening this weekend and running through October 26 is “Julius X: A Re-envisioning of the Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare.” Al Letson, a Peabody Award-winning journalist (and the host of the Reveal podcast), incorporates Shakespeare’s original work with his own verse. Emmy and Tony Award Winner Darren Criss Stops by George Mason University

ARTS by George!, an annual benefit event that raises money for George Mason University student scholarships in the arts, is celebrating its 20th year with headliner (and Emmy, Golden Globe and Tony Award winner) Darren Criss, is this Saturday on the Fairfax campus of GMU. This Weekend, Smithsonian Craft2Wear is at a New Location

Over 70 of the country’s best artisans will be showing and selling their art at the Smithsonian Women’s Commmittee’s 20th annual Craft2Wear event this weekend. The event will be at a new location, the Smithsonian Arts and Industries Building. More information on the event can be found here.

CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER-The Washington Ballet Previews New Season at CityCenterDC
The Washington Ballet is showcasing free, hour-long performances this weekend at CityCenterDC. Audiences will have the chance to catch a preview of the upcoming 2025-2026 season, with seating opening a half hour before each performance and will be first come, first served. Performances are Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. More information can be found here.

The National Building Museum Opens ‘Coming Together’

The National Building Museum’s new exhibit called “Coming Together: Reimagining America’s Downtowns,” looks at lessons learned, and opportunities welcomed post-pandemic. After a time of change from everything to work, housing, entertainment, and more, urban spaces all over the country are coming up with new strategies to improve. The Washington Bach Consort Opens Their Season

The Washington Bach Consort opens its fall season with “Cantata 300,” a performance that celebrates the 300th anniversary of four of Bach’s Leipzig’s cantatas. The concert will be led by Artistic Director Dana Marsh and will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at National Presbyterian Church. More information on the performance can be found here.

American University Hosts Its Biennial Feminist Art History Conference

AU’s Ninth Feminist Art History Conference is Friday through Sunday at Katzen Arts Center and online. The event, which has in-person, virtual and hybrid panel discussions, includes presenters from 19 countries and over 20 states. Participants will have the opportunity to look at the ways in which gender and sexuality have shaped visual arts. More information can be found here.

Celebrate The National Symphony Orchestra’s Season Opening Concert and Gala

The NSO is celebrating its 95th season this year, and its ninth directed by Gianandrea Noseda. Saturday’s event begins with cocktails, dinner, and culminates with a season opening concert and post-concert champagne at the REACH. More information can be found here.

Wolf Trap’s Bollywood Ball is Friday Night

Friday evening at the Filene Center at Wolf Trap will be a glam evening of dinner and dancing with a Bollywood theme. The Filene Center will be transformed into a place capturing the beautiful, spirited music, cuisine and culture of India. Proceeds from the Bollywood Ball will support Wolf Trap’s arts and community programs that reach 500,000+ annually. More information can be found here.
