#APBAConf2025 #APBA #NAPB #NAPBBorlaugScholars The International Borlaug Scholars APBA NAPB Mentoring Program has officially launched at the African Plant Breeders Association Meeting. Hosted by the National Association of Plant Breeding (NAPB) and the African Plant Breeders Association (APBA), the kickoff event took place in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. This gathering brought together scholars, mentors, and organizers, marking an engaging start to these initiatives. APBA president Julia Sibiya presented the awards during the event. Participants received a comprehensive overview of the International Borlaug Scholars mentoring program tailored for Plant Breeding PhD candidates. They learned about the program’s objectives and were introduced to plans for future participation, including the upcoming NAPB meeting scheduled for 2026 at Texas A&M University. The selected 2025 scholars are: - Djidjoho Tierry Hodehou - Zeleke Keimeso - Irene Mughi - Dorcas Olaoye - Abdou Mouizz Salaou - Eric Nduwarugira We appreciated the commitment of mentors and representatives from APBA and NAPB, including Charles Mutimaamba, Catherine Ziyomo, John Hickey, Ronald Dorcinvil, Allan Van Deynze, Donn Cummings, Steve Kesovich, and Klaus Koehler. A highlight of the event was the opportunity for scholars to meet their mentors in person. The mentoring program will span two years, with each scholar receiving guidance from both an African and an American mentor. This dual-mentorship model aims to foster scientific excellence, international collaboration, and professional growth.
