Key Insights from the Security Dialogue Today, stakeholders from across Northern Ghana convened for a crucial Dialogue on State and Non-State Actors for Security, led and convened by STAR-Ghana Foundation. The dialogue forms part of the Foundation’s ongoing efforts to foster inclusive governance and strengthen citizen–state #collaboration for peace and development in #NorthernGhana. These came from the Hon. Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Muntaka’s keynote address: -“Treat Crime as Crime” – The Minister called for impartial law enforcement, emphasizing that justice must be applied without bias to tribe, religion, or political affiliation. -The Cost of Conflict – He underscored the significant resources diverted to managing conflicts, resources that could otherwise be channeled to development in Northern Ghana. -Action on Arms – The Minister also announced an upcoming amnesty period for the voluntary surrender of illegal weapons. Through dialogues like these, STAR-Ghana Foundation continues to provide a neutral platform for collaboration between state and non-state actors, advancing collective action for lasting peace and security in Northern Ghana.

Through these efforts: -A Northern Ghana Peace Index has been developed to guide data-driven interventions. -District Peace Committees have been formed to address community-level disputes. -Coordination between REGSEC and Peace Councils has improved intelligence sharing. Tomorrow, STAR-Ghana Foundation will convene a gathering of state and non-state actors for the 6th Northern Ghana Security Dialogue in Tamale, under the theme, “Strengthening Coordination for Sustainable Peace and Security in Northern Ghana”. Breaking Barriers for Girls in Lakpo As part of our ongoing series highlighting STAR-Ghana Foundation’s work around Girls’ Rights following this year’s #InternationalDayOfTheGirlChild, we spotlight the inspiring efforts taking place at Lakpo, in the Volta Region of Ghana. Here, Gender and Reproductive Health Advocacy Youth Network (GRAY Network), through #STARGhanaFoundation’s #volunteerismproject, is working with dedicated volunteers who sew reusable #SanitaryPads to help combat period poverty and promote menstrual hygiene awareness among #schoolgirls and community members. Parents are also being #educated on the importance of proper menstrual care, a vital step toward boosting girls’ confidence, improving school attendance, and reducing vulnerabilities that can push them into #crisissituations such as teenage pregnancy.
