View Transitions vs PageSwap and PageReveal

Looking at https://github.com/web-platform-dx/web-features/blob/main/features/view-transitions.yml I see that PageSwap and PageReveal are listed as subfeatures of View Transitions.

While these two features are more closely related to Cross-Document View Transitions than Same-Document View Transitions, I suggest to split them off into their own little feature-set because these events can be implemented – and also do fire - without View Transitions.

@bramus @ddbeck Does this suggest that we create page-swap.yml and page-reveal.yml under their own feature, or part of a larger grouped feature? Thanks

@bramus thanks. Indeed, it seems like these events should not be in view-transitions.yml. However, MDN says "This is useful in the case of cross-document (MPA) view transitions for..." for both of these events, so I'm inclined to move them into cross-document-view-transitions.yml instead. Do you think it's likely that developers consider these events as completely separate from the whole view transitions thing?
If so, or if they're a so-called "later addition" that devs thing of independently, then I'm supportive of creating a separate feature. But on the surface, it seems to me like they would make sense as part of our cross-document VT feature.

@schalkneethling if we decide to split them off of VT, then I think just one feature that groups them would make more sense. While we do have features in the repo that are about just one thing (e.g. one html attribute, or one css property), we try to group things together when it makes sense from a developer's stand point.

Totally agree, and combining them under cross-document sounds like a plan.

Technically speaking these events can be implemented without implementing Cross-Document View Transitions … but the main reason these exist is for use with Cross-Document View Transitions, so one could say it’s fine to bundle the two events together with Cross-Document View Transitions.
