🎉 This week the IASIS consortium is meeting in Liège, Belgium, for our General Assembly, marking one year of progress in our mission to heal contaminated and saline soil with industrial crops for bio-based products in the EU. Hosted by our partners University of Liège and Celabor srl, the meeting was packed with strategic discussions and updates across all our work packages. It's great to see the collaboration and expertise from our  partners coming together. We're advancing on multiple fronts: 🔹 Crop optimization and phytomanagement strategies. We are testing different annual crops such as camelina, crambe and nettle, as well as new species such as Salicornia, a salt tolerant plant that can be grown on saline soils. Activities include developing improved genotypes and breeding tools, as well as phytomanagement strategies with the use of microbial consortia. 🔹Extracting valuable compounds from the crop biomass and converting them into bio-based products like bioplastics, resins, adhesives and coating materials. 🔹Developing a DSS tool and assessing environmental impact, economic feasibility, and life cycle analysis of a range of biomass-to-product pathways to transform contaminated land from a liability into a resource for the bioeconomy. We also had a chance to visit our Belgian case study located in an industrial wasteland in Sclessin and and see the lab work for biomass pre-treatment and extraction firsthand at Celabor.
