A brand new lagoon, Laugarás Lagoon, opened yesterday in Laugarás, about an hour and 20 minute drive from Reykjavík.

According to Vísir, 50 new jobs have been created at Laugarás Lagoon.

The lagoon offers visitors a unique experience where nature, design, and wellbeing come together. Facilities include two steam rooms, a hot and a cold pool, and the on-site restaurant Ylja, overseen by Vestmannaeyjar native Gísli Matt, who recently closed his legendary Slippurinn restaurant.

“We serve food sourced from the local area, working with many small producers nearby. Our goal is to create a holistic experience for visitors,” Gísli Matt told Vísir.

The construction of the lagoon cost around three billion ISK and spans nearly 1,000 square metres across two levels. A striking seven-metre waterfall adds to its appeal and is expected to become a highlight for guests.

Bryndís Björnsdóttir, managing director of Laugarás Lagoon, said the team has worked hard to make the site an attractive destination. “We are extremely grateful to everyone who visited on the first day and hope this enthusiasm continues,” she said.

The lagoon is owned entirely by Icelandic investors, who launched the project and invited others to join. Entrance prices start at 6.900 ISK, with additional options available depending on the level of luxury chosen.
