@manton Not too long ago, you said you might implement manual newsletter sending — an option to let users hit a “publish” button (or whatever) and send a newsletter immediately, rather than sending at a fixed time. I would like that! Put me down as a +1 for it.
I think this would be a fantastic feature, put me down as a +1 as well.
I too would like this option.
But I also think it should be part of a broader development of newsletter features (templates, send options, paywall -using something like patreon, etc ). I’ve pinged @manton in the past about what I think is an opportunity for MB to do more for newsletters. But I also get the difficulty in that.
I also don’t think MB shoudl go the route of being a “newsletter” platform either. I think it shoudl stay blogging, just with enhanced newsletter capabilities.
Thanks y’all! Yeah, I’d love to do more here as long as it fits within the blog-based nature of Micro.blog.
Maybe to start with, just a “Send Now” button to queue up any blog posts that were ready to go?
For templates, what would be useful? We have template editing in Newsletter → Settings. But maybe picking from a range of styles like blog themes would make that a lot easier.
I’d be happy just to be able to manually send a newsletter, like this:
Also: Not a feature request here, just an observation: The “scheduled” newsletter notification is useless to me. For me, the newsletter is set-and-forget. I’ve been meaning to set up a mail filter to send that notification straight to the trash.
I have literally about 40 subscribers to the newsletter. I ain’t Garbage Day, not by a long shot! Every so often, I put out a notice asking if anybody receiving the newsletter is even reading the thing — making it clear that I am not asking for validation, I really want to know, and if nobody’s reading it, I’ll stop doing it. I get a few responses back from people saying yeah they enjoy it. So that’s enough for me to keep going with it.
Also, one of those readers is my wife.
Interesting. We could add a preference to avoid the “scheduled” notice. I like it as a default, but I sort of agree with you that it’s sometimes just noise. For my own blog, I just skim it and make sure nothing looks wrong.
How often does your newsletter go out? Do you include everything or just a subset of posts?
