Icarus Robotics, an Irish co-founded startup developing human-controlled robots for use in space, has raised $6.1 million in a seed round. Finn Murphy’s Nebular is among the backers in the raise, which has been led by Soma Capital and Xtal. Icarus was founded last year by Ethan Barajas and Jamie Palmer.

Last week, the Research Ireland ADAPT Centre for AI-Driven Digital Content Technology welcomed leading researchers, policymakers, Government officials, and industry partners to Europe House for its annual flagship conference. Now in its fifth year, the theme for 2025 was Bridging the AI Gap: Driving European Innovation. The conference underscores how Ireland’s AI ecosystem is not only contributing to cutting-edge innovation but also sits at the forefront of European digital leadership, tackling pressing societal, health and economic challenges, while spotlighting Ireland’s role in digital security, and an Open Source future. Professor Prof. John D. Kelleher, Director of ADAPT and Chair of Artificial Intelligence at Trinity College Dublin, said: “At ADAPT, our leadership in AI is founded on a collaborative spirit that brings together researchers, industry, and policymakers to drive innovation for Europe’s digital future. Applications are now open from Irish-based start-ups wishing to participate in the 2025 AI Ecosystem Accelerator Programme which will be delivered by NovaUCD in partnership with CeADAR Ireland. The focus of this 6-month accelerator programme, which is now in its second year, is to support entrepreneurs who are developing disruptive AI solutions in sectors including, healthcare, cybersecurity, education, sustainability, finance, content creation, supply chain and customer service, for a global market.
