Base44 sold to Wix for $80 million in cash  six months from idea to exit  no VC  just clarity and execution Why this matters for Italy? The Base44 exit happened in Israel - one of the most developed startup ecosystems in the world. But for the first time, this story is also a positive signal for Italy, showing that such outcomes are no longer out of reach. Crucially, success of this kind is no longer bound by the years of digital and technological gap that once separated Europe from Silicon Valley and Israel. AI has erased much of that distance, making these achievements attainable here too. Italy’s AI market grew 58% in 2024, reaching €1.2 billion, and with lots of funds ready to be deployed on the topic. We’re a remote first company.  But last week, we met in person for one reason: AI. It was our 2nd strategic meetup of the year (the first was back in March). We went function by function – reviewing 6 months of progress, celebrating wins & facing challenges honestly. But the heart of the conversation was one theme: AI adoption. 6 months ago, we began formal AI strategization at TalentGum.  What started as small pilots is now shaping the way we think and work every day. We asked ourselves three tough questions: • How is each function already using AI today? • Where are the gaps where AI can make us sharper and faster? • What’s the roadmap for the next few months? Some learnings so far: • Start small, scale later. AI pilots in Sales & Operation shows the most value when tightly scoped. • Mindset > tools. Teams that saw AI as augmentation, not replacement, extracted more impact. • Cross-function learning is powerful. Teacher training borrowed workflows from marketing’s AI pilots - a proof that AI progress compounds when knowledge spreads. And we’re seeing similar moves globally.  From education to finance, companies are moving from “AI playbooks” to AI in practice. As a founder, what excites me most is not the tech itself but the cultural shift: AI is no longer a future project; it’s becoming a natural part of how we think, plan, and deliver. OpenAI just confirmed: ChatGPT will take a cut of product sales made inside the app. This is playing out exactly as we expected. OpenAI is building its own AI-native commerce layer — starting with integrated shopping and affiliate commissions inside ChatGPT . 🧠 No more passing users off to someone else’s site. 🛒 No more relying on third-party ad clicks. 💰 Revenue tied to outcomes, not impressions. And here’s the shift that matters most: Search-to-product matching will now be based on relevance, not on who paid the most to show up. This flips the traditional model. In AI-native search, attention isn’t bought — it’s earned through clarity, trust, and contextual fit. It’s a small feature (for now), but a big signal: AI search will monetize relevance, not attention. This challenges Google’s $200B ad model more than any UX shift ever has. Because if answers replace listings — and transactions happen inside the interface — the old rules break. It also raises a more strategic question for brands: Are you building content and product data that’s based on what people actually are looking for? Search isn’t dying.
