Shodhagram celebrated Diwali on 17 October — but this year’s celebration was special. SEARCH embraced the spirit of sustainability through an innovative approach to gifting. The idea was simple yet deeply meaningful, rooted in social connection, generosity, and reciprocity. It was inspired by the desire to strengthen social bonds and nurture a sense of community through sharing. SEARCH invited its karyakartas to bring items from their homes that were in good condition but not in use — so others could freely choose whatever they needed or liked. Initially, some were skeptical: would people really accept gifts that were pre-owned? Would anyone bring or pick such items? The outcome exceeded all expectations. Over 50 karyakartas, including Dr. Abhay and Dr. Rani Bang, participated enthusiastically — both contributing and selecting gifts. The shared items ranged from books, shirts, sarees, scarves, shoes, and jewellery to various household products. The exchange went on for four rounds until every gift found a new home. This thoughtful celebration was inspired by the concept of the “Sharing and Gift Economy” — a small but significant step toward “Logic 3,” an approach that moves beyond individual or mutual gain toward collective wellbeing and sustainable living. #DiwaliOfSharing #SustainableDiwali #SpiritOfGiving #SharingEconomy #GiftEconomy #Logic3 #SEARCHGadchiroli #CommunityCare #EcoFriendlyCelebration #ShodhagramDiwali #TogetherForChange #CollectiveWellbeing

Arogya Swaraj – People’s Health in People’s Hands, fostering health, freedom, and community-driven well-being.
About us
SEARCH provides healthcare to the rural and tribal people in Gadchiroli district, with a vision of Aarogya Swaraj: "People’s Health in People’s Hands, by empowering individuals and communities to take charge of their own health, and thereby, help them achieve freedom from disease as well as dependence." Gadchiroli is one of the most impoverished districts in India with tribals constituting 30% of its population. The poverty, illiteracy and remoteness add to the huge healthcare challenges in this region. Moved by the dire circumstances, visionaries Dr. Rani and Dr. Abhay Bang set up SEARCH in 1986, to live among these people and serve them. SEARCH has now been working among the rural and tribal poor and marginalised for over 37 years. We work with the rural and tribal communities to identify their health needs and develop interventions models that are both sustainable and community empowering. SEARCH, today, is recognised as a global leader amongst public health institutions. Our community-based participatory approach has made pathbreaking contributions in the public health problems of not just Gadchiroli, but also globally.

India faces a staggering 80% mental health treatment gap, but in the tribal areas of Dhanora, SEARCH is changing that. Rooted in Arogya Swaraj and inspired by Gandhi’s question - “Are we helping the weakest among us?” - our Mental Health Village Clinic Model across 48 villages has already reduced this gap by 22%. On this World Mental Health Day 2025, as we reflect on the theme “Access to Services – Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies,” we’re reminded that mental health is not a luxury - it’s a necessity. SEARCH has always been known for creating local solutions to local problems. For the past four years, it has been conducting a Cancer OPD, led by renowned oncologist Dr. Sushil Mandhaniya. Delivering cancer care in Gadchiroli comes with unique challenges. Many patients cannot afford to visit the hospital every week due to the loss of daily wages. Others, often suffering from malnutrition, struggle to tolerate standard medications. Considering these realities, SEARCH, with expert guidance, adapted the existing protocol of metronomic chemotherapy to better suit local needs. This article highlights this thoughtful approach. We are grateful to Samrat Phadnis for publishing it in Daily Sakal. https://lnkd.in/dVKDu5ng? #Cancer #SEARCH
