In tribal region of Chhotaudepur , Gujarat sustainable livelihood models are quietly reshaping communities — not through large-scale interventions, but through steady, community-led progress. In collaboration with NABARD - National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, our efforts to promote improved goat and poultry farming among tribal households focus on practical, long-term change. The approach is simple yet powerful: enhance knowledge, strengthen local systems, and build economic resilience through sustainable, locally suited practices. Through exposure visits, scientific training, and field-based demonstrations, farmers are learning to adopt improved rearing methods that enhance animal health, nutrition, and productivity. Infrastructure development — such as goat nurseries, solar-powered Kadaknath hatcheries, and local feed production units — is creating a strong foundation for self-reliant farming enterprises. The outcomes are already visible: · 33 Sirohi goats purchased; 21+ kids distributed to 8 beneficiaries · 75 farmers received 25 Kadaknath chicks each · Over 5,000 chicks distributed to 182 farmers · Solar-powered hatcheries (500–2000 egg capacity) established · Entrepreneurs earning ₹1–1.5 lakh through chick distribution & egg sales Sustainable rural development is not about delivering aid — it’s about building ecosystems that allow people to grow, adapt, and thrive with dignity. At Shroffs Foundation Trust, we recognise the deep connection between forests, water, and the communities that rely on them. Our esteemed trustee R.K. Sama. IFS (Retd.) reflects on his lifelong journey with nature—from childhood encounters with tigers in Tadoba to decades of working with tribal communities in Gujarat, and his tireless efforts in water conservation and watershed development. In this blog, R.K. Sama shares insights into how forests and water are not just natural resources but vital lifelines that ensure the survival and resilience of both wildlife and tribal communities. The Adi Karmayogi initiative is a transformative program launched by MINISTRY OF TRIBAL AFFAIRS GOVERNMENT OF INDIA the government to empower tribal and rural communities. Its focus is on skill development, livelihood enhancement, and community capacity building at grass root level —ensuring that every individual has the tools and opportunities to achieve sustainable growth and self-reliance. We are happy to share that Shroffs Foundation Trust has signed a MoU with the District Government for 3 blocks – Chhotaudepur, Pavi-Jetpur and Kavant, of Chhotaudepur District under this initiative. Building on our ongoing work in the area and establishing close collaboration with local community at the grassroots level, this partnership will enable us to work closely with the community to: 1. Identify and train Aadi Saathi/Village change maker at village level 2. Create awareness and capacity building at the grassroots level 3. Develop a village action plan for Chhotaudepur, Pavi-Jetpur and Kavant blocks This collaboration marks a significant step toward building stronger, empowered communities and making a real difference where it matters most. Together with our government partners and the local community, we look forward to driving meaningful change. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐈𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 Access to quality healthcare is often limited in rural areas, making health camps a crucial bridge for early detection, preventive care, and timely treatment. They not only bring doctors and diagnostics closer to communities but also raise health awareness, encourage timely care, and ease the burden of untreated illnesses. Acting as a first line of defence against conditions like anaemia, hypertension, and diabetes, these camps ensure no one is left behind due to lack of access. One such initiative was organized on 22nd August 2025 at Chapaner Primary School, covering the villages of Chapaner & Khakhariya, as part of INOXCV’s monthly health activities across 14 villages in the Halol–Kalol–Savli industrial region, with team of expert doctor and nurses. 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: 112 patients attended (46 males | 66 females) 22 Haemoglobin tests → 10 anaemic patients identified 18 Random Blood Sugar tests 88 Blood Pressure check-ups This initiative helped ensure accessible healthcare in rural areas, promoting preventive care and early detection of common health concerns. In tribal belts of Gujarat, traditional agriculture often struggles to meet both income and nutritional needs. To Enhance the economic and nutritional security of tribals SFT introduced Kadaknath breed—a jet-black, nutrient-rich native poultry with 25% protein and minimal fat—offering a promising solution for economic and health security. Through a holistic model combining technical training, solar-powered hatcheries, and farmer-to-farmer supply chains, communities are building self-reliant, locally-owned poultry ecosystems. This approach ensures: · Continuous, affordable chick supply for rearing and sales · Income diversification and growth for households · Enhanced nutritional security through protein-rich poultry The Kadaknath initiative demonstrates that innovation, technical handholding, and community entrepreneurship can come together to create a sustainable, resilient, and scalable livelihood model. Kadaknath is not just poultry—it’s a blueprint for rural transformation.
