👇 Here's how we are working with partners to unlock the potential of the non-farm sector for women’s economic empowerment. UNDP in India, in partnership with ACCESS Development Services, convened a high-level roundtable bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, and experts to identify priority areas and actionable pathways for advancing women’s leadership and participation across India’s evolving livelihoods landscape. In his keynote address, Shri T.K. Anil Kumar, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, GoI, highlighted the transformative progress under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) which now connects over 9,100,000 self-help groups bringing together 100 million women, supported by ₹600 billion in unlocked financing and ₹11 trillion in additional bank linkages. He noted that the mission continues to evolve as an institutional movement bringing in inclusion - it’s a movement of the poor, for the poor, and by the poor. Speaking at the roundtable, Dr. Angela Lusigi, Resident Representative, UNDP in India, emphasized how across India, millions of women are ready to move from survival to success, from participation to leadership. Hence there is an urgent need for collective action to identify high-potential value chains that ▶️ Create dignified and quality jobs for women ▶️ Develop innovative financing models that combine credit, fintech, and philanthropy ▶️ Expand market access through inclusive value chains and digital platforms. The discussions identified actionable recommendations for building an inclusive non-farm ecosystem that empowers women as leaders, entrepreneurs, and change-makers driving India’s growth story. Today, #HimachalPradesh made history by becoming the first state in India to launch a State Human Development Report that unites two defining priorities: human development and climate change. Launched by Hon’ble Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the report highlights pathways to a climate-resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future for the state. This is a call to action to: 👉 Build climate resilience into every plan and investment because sustainable development depends on it. 👉 Strengthen livelihoods in a climate-proof economy. 👉 Empower people and communities to drive local climate action. 👉 Harness data and technology as the new climate infrastructure to power progress and resilience. At the launch, Dr. Angela Lusigi, Resident Representative, UNDP India, shared, “Himachal Pradesh is the first state in India to prepare its Human Development Report in view of climate change and its impact on the state’s economy, livelihoods, and natural resources. This report underlines that the state’s development path is inseparable from its climate resilience and hinges on coordinated action across sectors.” Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/gS-kgWsY

International #SnowLeopardDay Webinar Dr Ruchi Pant, Head Climate Adaptation, NRM and Biodiversity, UNDP in India shared insights on the #SecureHimalayaProject, a pioneering initiative that has placed the snow leopard at the heart of India’s high-altitude conservation efforts. Launched on 2nd October 2017, the six-and-a-half-year project was the first of its kind to take an integrated, landscape-level approach to snow leopard conservation. Supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF-6) with a grant of USD 11.54 million, and implemented by the Government of India and UNDP, the project has made significant progress in conserving fragile mountain ecosystems. Dr Pant highlighted key achievements of Secure Himalaya, including: ✅ Comprehensive Landscape Management Plans for four high-altitude regions — Changthang (Ladakh), Lahaul–Pangi (Himachal Pradesh), Gangotri–Govind (Uttarakhand), and Khangchendzonga–Upper Teesta Valley (Sikkim). ✅ SOPs for High-Altitude Wetland Management. ✅ Technical support for the Snow Leopard Population Assessment in India. ✅ 105 Biodiversity Management Committees established and strengthened, along with local institutions such as SHGs, FPOs, and cooperatives. ✅ Mapping and inventory of wild medicinal plant species using IUCN’s Conservation Assessment and Management Prioritization (CAMP) framework. ✅ Identification and mapping of 73 High Conservation Value Areas (HCVAs). This project has shown how conservation and community well-being can go hand in hand, Dr Pant emphasized. By protecting the snow leopard, we are safeguarding the entire Himalayan ecosystem, the source of our water, our biodiversity, and our resilience to climate change. #IBCAforSnowLeopard Snow Leopard Trust Snow Leopard Network Snow Leopard Foundation International Snow Leopard Foundation Koustubh Sharma Justine Shanti Alexander Wildlife Conservation Society UNDP WWF Wildlife Institute of India WWF Nepal Snow Leopard Conservancy Rodney Jackson Adam Falk Wildlife Conservation Society Mongolia Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) SAWEN - South Asia Wildlife Enforcement Network
