From ICU to representing India in World Transplant Games Federation in Germany I wasn’t sure for a long time whether I should share this part of my life publicly. It’s deeply personal, and putting it out to the world isn’t easy. But some stories need to be told because they can give hope, inspire courage, and spread awareness about the gift of organ donation. In 2020, I was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. In 2022, I was in the ICU for my transplant surgery, when my father at the age of 70 donated his kidney to me, giving me a second chance at life. Without him, none of this would have been possible. This August, I had the honor of representing team india at World Transplant Games 2025 in Dresden, Germany. The Games brought together 2,200 participants from 50+ countries transplant recipients, living donors, and donor families all united by one message to celebrate the gift of life. I was one of 57 athletes representing Team India, competing in the 5K road race, 400m, and 1500m track events. I may not have won a medal, but this journey was a victory in itself. Just three years after my kidney transplant, I cut 3 minutes off my personal best in the 5K, clocking 21 minutes, a breakthrough that took months of training, discipline, and self-belief. In the 400m, I missed the podium by just half a second, yet walked away with something greater: the confidence that I’m stronger, faster, and only just getting started. This journey wouldn’t have been possible without: 🙏 My father, my hero and donor 🙏My wife Pooja Drubra who has sacrificed her own running, taken on countless responsibilities, and stood as my strongest pillar through everything. 🙏My son and my mother; my joy, positivity, and constant care. 🙏My coach, Nirav Patel Patel; who believed in me even when I doubted myself, pushed me harder, and made me race-ready. 🙏Ganesh Gogi & my physio Dr. Mohammed Fayz (PT) from Kinesphere wellness; who guided me through injury recovery, believed in my comeback, and ensured I was in my best shape for the Games. 🙏Partners: Gabit (tracking), Fast&Up India (Hydration), furo.fit and ORGAN India (for managing the entire Team India contingent). 🙏WeRize , for giving me the time and space to prepare and participate. The Games were more than sport, they were about life itself. I met inspiring friends from across the globe, transplant athletes who excelled in their events yet carried such humility. They gave me hope, confidence, and motivation to keep improving and to participate again in future Games. I return home not with a medal, but with something far greater; gratitude and purpose.
