According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), cancer burden in India is expected to cross 15 lakh new cases annually by 2026. 📈 Key factors driving this surge: Lifestyle changes – smoking, alcohol use, unhealthy diets, obesity, and sedentary habits. Increasing environmental pollution and occupational exposures. Delayed diagnosis due to lack of awareness and screening. Limited access to specialized cancer care in rural and underserved regions. 💡 The way forward: 1. Awareness & Early Detection – Strengthening community-level education and regular screening programs. 2. Accessible Treatment – Expanding cancer care centers and ensuring affordability of advanced therapies. 3. Prevention First – Stronger anti-tobacco campaigns, vaccination for preventable cancers (HPV, Hepatitis B). 4. Technology & Innovation – Leveraging AI, molecular diagnostics, and precision medicine to improve outcomes. 5. AI has been a buzz word since GPT showcased it's strength a year back. Today we have more than 400+ AI platforms available for various applications. Every walk of life will be affected through the capabilities of AI in the coming years. It's entrance to health care may be slow as always but it is certain to change the way we experience the services delivered. NH has been driving it's digital transformation much before the AI entered into our life. The new AI tools are giving much needed tailwinds for this transformation. One day session on NH digital platform capabilities introduced the much awaited AI supported AIRA platform. Leadership in healthcare goes far beyond clinical skills — it’s about vision, delegation, and the courage to build something larger than yourself. I spent the last two days at the Leadership and Delegation Workshop in Healthcare at IIM Ahmedabad, learning from brilliant faculty like Prof. Rajesh Chandwani, Prof. Chitra Singla, and Prof. Viswanath Pingali It was a deeply reflective experience — a pause from the busy OPD schedule to re-learn how to delegate better, empower teams, and think beyond the day-to-day towards building scalable healthcare systems. Met inspiring physicians and diabetologists from across India — many of whom run their own micro, small, and medium hospitals. The conversations around leadership challenges, behavioural economics, and building entrepreneurial mindsets in healthcare were eye-opening. How do you market something that no one wants to buy? Especially, if it is associated with pain, suffering, trauma and a host of other negative emotions. Marketing of healthcare services is one of the toughest jobs. Whereas, you will find dozens of 'experts' for healthcare marketing in your hospital and its management team, most of them in reality have a superficial understanding of the subject. Building deep rooted patient trust that generates a positive word of mouth, is the key to successful healthcare marketing. However, something like that can take years to build and one moment to get destroyed.
